I know what you're saying.  After talking to my husband and kids, we all decided that for me, lapband is the way to go.      Sounds like gastric would be your best choice.  I may find out something different on Friday that will change my mind.  My daughter is going with me to hear what they have to say, so she can be one of my personal cheerleaders!   She's very lucky - has always been slim.  Didn't get MY genes!

I haven't decided which surgery I want yet. I really enjoy sweets, so I am now leaning towards the bypass to make it harder to cheat the system. Not thrilled about the recovery time, but I'd rather have a few months of misery in the begining to have a better quality of life for many more years to come!

I have just begun.....will attend the introductory seminar this Friday the 10th at Des Moines Bariatric (Methodist)  It's where my doctor referred me.  I'm anxious to get started!  I will choose the lap band which will take longer, but I'm determined and know that losing slowly is better than not at all.  I'm someone who wants it all and wants it now, so I've had to make myself accept that it will be a much slower choice.
Reading so many stories helps me realize that regardless of my surgical choice, the process is pretty much the same and we all look toward the same outcome!

I'll post after Friday's seminar.  I expect delays (due to insurance), and hope that insurance is the only obstacle that I will encounter along the way.  Let the hoop jumping begin!

Hi all,
New to this.  I am in the process of jumping through hoops for surgery.  From Des Moines, IA.  Anyone near the area that worked with Mercy Weight Reduction Center?

I dont think I will ever be up for a half marathon,, I did walk two more nites -- 2 miles each,, it is really hard carrying all this around and I was sure I had walked longer than that,, but I figure it is taking me 75 minutes to walk that so maybe I will get somewhere someday,,lol

Your regular Dr and your Bariatric Dr.  need to get on the same page.  When applying for my surgery they worked together.  Once the 6 months were done and all my other program documentation,  I included weigh****chers, spark people tracking, My journals and measurements.  The person submitting it should be doing a better job of writing that letter requesting service.  If they arent good at that I would worry about the rest of the follow thru.  You should have had a sleep study for apnea, extensive bloodwork to show any significant issues like cholesterol ect.

I know your upset , and angry, but keep having faith if you want this badly enough it will come thru for you.  I have weighted 2 years myself and just got approved.  It will happen have faith.

Booter110,

I just responded to the post about groups in Sioux City if you want to check the board.  There is a group that meets the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month at Mercy.

Hi there.  I'm sorry to be so slow in responding, but I don't check the boards that often anymore.

There is a really good wls group here in Sioux City that meets the first and third Tuesday of each month.  It meets at 6:00 p.m. in the Leiter room (down the hall from the gift shop) at Mercy Hospital.  It is run by the Mercy Weight Loss Center out of Midlands Clinic in Dakota Dunes.  The next session will be about planning for vacations.

It is open to the public but most are people who have had or are planning to have the surgery here.  We do have a few who have had the surgery elsewhere.

If you'd like more information or a contact, just email me and I'll be glad to provide it.

Oh, by the way, I am 3 1/2 years out, RNY, and have lost 240 lbs.  And I go to the group regularly.

Congratulations! Good for you for getting out there and keeping at it! The next one will be easier, and the pounds will keep falling off!
