Topic: RE: Initial Appointment
I had my initial consult with Dr. Jamal on October 17th, 2008 and had my surgery on Feb. 11, 2009.  After my initial consult, I needed to get a psychological eval and then go back for another appointment.  On November 14, 2008 I had my second appointment and then had my psychological evaluation on November 18, 2008 (couldn't get in to them before then).  Dr. Jamal's office submitted things to my insurance (same as your insurance) after they got the letter from the psychologist.  On December 31, 2008 I got my letter of approval from BCBS.  Had to wait for Debbie to contact me about the surgery date because she was on vacation until January 12.  I had my pre-op appointment on January 30 and then surgery was Feb. 11th.  It really goes fast once the process starts, let me tell you.  If you have your initial consult on Friday, I would say that by late September or early October you'll have your surgery.  Since you've had your psychological eval and your sleep study done already, you're one step ahead of things.

Keep posting on how things go because I'm interested in hearing how you do.

Just curious if Dr. G does revisions.  I am 5 years out, only lost 60 pounds and have done nothing but gone back up.  I am still 25 pounds under pre rny weight.  I know I should of kept on going back to the dr. but I just couldnt I felt like such a failure.  Has anyone else gone through this?  Thanks for your help.

Understandable, totally.  I am sorry you are having problems and you are right - very few do revisios.  I do know there is one in MN though that does just this.  I believe in Rochester at the Mayo Clinic.  It is about 1 hour and 15 mins from me.  What part of Iowa are you from?  I am from Northwood, 3 miles from MN border.  Hopefully when u say "rural" it isn't too far but would be worth any distance I would think.

I looked at your latests posts and I only see your reply to mine and your orginal one.

Would love to meet up with you if you are close.. I love meeting OH'ers and I think it helps for support reasons. I also invite you to come to our support group in Mason City that I help run only *if* you are intersted.  We are having a bariatric picnic on Monday at East Park in Mason (not sure if you are familiar with our area at all, and just in case you are, I am throwing it out there for you).

I will pray for you and hope you find your resources you need sweetie. Hugs.

Mechanical failure with bad side effects. If you track back more of my posts, you can see the story.

The catch on finding a surgeon for revision is much trickier than finding a surgeon for virgin DS. There are only a few of them in the country.

I won't publish his name here for fear of repercussions. He's very well-known and has a very good job.

I know I can call, but I don't want to "out" myself too early, and I was wondering about people's experiences "on the ground."

Sorry to hear of your problems.. exactly what is your need for a revision? A mechanical failure?

Who did your surgery if you don't mind me asking?

I do not know of any DS surgeons in Iowa but there are some in MN - I do know that.  I would ask on the DS board for their opinions of good ones, they would know!

I do not know anything about your specific insurance plan, have you called them to see what their requirements are and/or if revisions are covered in particular situations?

Good luck..

Welcome.... hope your journey is a good one!  I find the sites on OH specific to each surgery are a lot of help.  ( I am a lap bander and frequent that message board).  If yo are still researching all surgery types visit them all and read away, ask question!!

Just come, hang out and ask alot of questions.  That's my best suggestion to you.  At times there are lots of posts and other times the forum is quiet.  If you have a question, ask away because that is how you'll be most prepared for the journey.

Looking forward to hearing more from you, especially how things are progressing toward your surgery.

I am new to this site - have attended the educational session with Dr Eibes, had my first consult with him, started the mental health evals, and am trying to pull all my documentation together.  I am hoping that I have enough - and that approval goes smoothly.  There is so much information on this site.  Does anyone have any recommendation for groups or message boards that they find the most valuable?

Thanks!
