Hi Kim! Who do you have for insurance?  I did tons of research before even considering DS.  I am so excited.  This has already been such a long process.  Poke around on here and online and you will learn so much!

Congratulations Rita! I found that my company does allow me to have my surgery, but I haven't found out what the "hoops" are that I have to jump through, yet.
We are about 90 miles from Omaha. We live near Corning.
We actually visited Omaha 42 times one year. I was on the infertility journey with Dr. Doherty and had to drive back and forth quite a few times! Enough that we could actually take it off our taxes!

Good luck and hope to hear from you again....I'm just at the point I want a lot of info so I am not blindsided.

When I went to the seminar last month they said out-of-pocket surgery is $17,500.  Then you would also have to pay each time you had a fill or unfill.  Not cheap!

Just curious.  I was born and raised in Iowa but live in Omaha.  I wanted to post on the Iowa boards.  I am having my DS by Dr Gary Anthone on September 4th.  Luckily I was easily approved by Aetna!

Your best bet would be to go to the individual surgery forum and ask questions- I know many Lap Banders who were self pay- I am sure they will be able to help

Congratulations for taking the first step- that is the hardest. i also started out with Dr Eibes- went to the seminar and got great info- take your time and ask questions and you will find the right surgery and doctor for you.
You will need to find out what your insurance requires and if WLS is covered. When you know that you will be able to start making a plan.

Good Luck

I agree with everything that Kim said.  I did some research on the various programs and then talked to my primary physician.  He gave me a recommendation based on who his patients have gone to and had luck with.  I'd recommend you involve your primary doc in every step - they're there to be your partner in this journey.  I'm a step behind Kim in this process - one last step to go through before I try to get approved.

Thanks Kim! Good luck with your doctor's visit. I'll be very interested as to how your visit went. I feel like I'm walking into a room and nobody and have no idea what I am doing.
Thanks for the starter course!

Take Care
