What about the gastric sleeve?  I know someone who had that done in April and has lost 60 pounds already.  Is that something Dr. G would consider for you?  If not, find another surgeon who will at least talk with you about options.

Don't give up because you get knocked down by one surgeon.  Persevere and don't give up!!  You can do this and I believe that.  Please keep trying and let us know how you do.  You deserve to be healthy, so go for it!!

I've decided not even to bother, the lap band sounds annoying and I know 3 ppl who are still fat after 2 years. So screw surgery and i wish I cld get my $100 I wasted back!

Ive only heard bad things about Grinnell....sorry to hear you are having a hard time....I hope you can get the help you need.  If not, I suggest calling the bariatric dept at UIHC, they are awesome and I am sure they will take your call and help you in any way they can.  Good luck with everything!

Carol is spot on..Dr.G and staff are very strict about the program...this is just one of the reasons I will not go elsewhere, any rules or restrictions he has are all in his patients best interests. I'm sorry you are having this problem with them..this is the 1st bad review I've ever heard about his staff. Kim (insurance lady) is my fave! She's always so bright and happy, and It almost seems as if she's more excited about my surgery than I am...if that's even possible!  I hope you get the answer you want. I am assuming it is due to the type of medication you are on or possibly the severity of the depression.I s there a different type of med you could go on that he would accept?  Here's the best of wishes to you. let us know how things progress.

Thanks Carol, unfortunately they are all telling me the same. I am not a fan of the lap band,  so if thats the only option I'll just have to get the moxie to try sincerely and lose w/o surgery which is something Ive never done...

Carol, if you click to the My OH link near the top of the screen on the left side, it should take you to the My OH start page, and you should see your current avatar with a Change Avatar link directly below it.  If you click on that link, you should find the procedures to upload a picture from your computer or another website.  At least, that's the experience using IE8, yours may be different depending on the browser you are using.

Good afternoon Kim,
Congratulations on your surgery date.  Like you I had to jump through all of their hoops but finally I had my RNY done Aug 4, 09.  I had mine done by Dr. Thomas Brown in Denver, Co.  They were wonderful and I could have not asked for better care or qualified surgeon.  I went in for pre-op weighing 302 and today I am at 277.  Yea, it does work. LOL  I feel like a new person in so many ways.  I don't know what this surgery does to your body but it changes it instantly in so many positive ways.  I am 66 years old and no spring chicken by any means but now I am out walking at least a mile a day and some days twice that.  I had the laproscopic surgery and I had little or no pain after surgery and was up walking the halls of the hospital 4 hours after surgery.  I only stayed in the hospital 2 nights and was released at 11am on Thurs. and rode home that same day to Raymond, Iowa, with a stop overnight..
I wish you the very best and if I may be of any help please don't hesitate to contact me.  These groups are a blessing to us that are going or have gone thru the process.

Can someone tell me how to change my avatar, please?  I do not look like my picture anymore because I have lost weight and I want to update my avatar but for the life of me can't remember how to do it.  I know someone out there can help me so I'm thanking you ahead of time for that!
