Thanks for the reply and I am 1.5 hrs away from Sioux City but I wanted to let you know that Dr Rizk's office jsut received my records from my surgeon in WV on Friday and I received my packet of papers from Dr. Risk's staff yesterday, filled them out and mailed them back in today. My appointment is on Dec. 1. Wow, so he does tummy tucks as well?  I guess I am quite a ways from that since my weight gain. But, it gives a nice motivation to lose.
Thank you for the info on the support group. I would love to come but so far have not been able to work it in with my daughter's activities and being 1.5hrs away.
If you do not mind me asking, how long do you have to be at a certain weight before a tummy tuck can be done? Also, does insurance pay any for this? Oh well, liek I said this will be a while. I have 25lbs to lose.
Thanks again,
Jennifer

There is a great bariatric program in Dakota Dunes, SD right next to Sioux City.  My surgeon, Dr. Rizk, is there.  We also have a great support group that meets every first and third Tuesday night at Mercy Hospital.  Tonight we are having a discussion on the best way to cook different cuts of meat so they are healthy, delicious, and "chewable."  They have a nutritionist as well as a counselor and, I think, someone for the exercise.  And they have a non-surgery program as well.

Dr. Rizk did both my RNY and my tummy tuck.

If you would like their contact information, please let me know.

Updated my blog- I am online reading almost everyday but rarely have time to post so I am going to make an effort to post every 6 months. Life is good.

Kim -
I think you have to be a patient at Mercy to attend their support group.  At least that's why the nutritionist at work told me

Hi Carol,
Glad to hear you are almost there!!! Those test were worth it if you found that out.  I will keep my toes and fingers crossed and be thinking of you.  I just had my 6 month check up and I have lost 57% of my weight which they said was really good.  I just need to kick in some exercise and I know it will come off a bit faster

Kim --

I work for Weight Loss Surgical Center, and even though we specialize in LAP-BAND Surgeries, we allow anyone to attend, even if they have had other procedures or were banded by other surgeons. We realize that everyone needs support and may have something helpful to contribute, even if the paths to healthy weight are a little different.

In West Des Moines, we have a support group at our clinic. Here are details:

Des Moines LAP-BAND Support Group, next meeting is Nov. 19 at 7 p.m.

I hope that helps!

Hi Kim.  I'm not sure about Mercy, but I'm guessing that they also have a support group meeting.  I don't know if they only allow people who had the surgery there or if anyone is welcome to attend.  At one of the IA Health meetings, a woman asked a question and said that she had her surgery at Mercy.  They told her they didn't really care where she had the surgery, they are there to help everyone.

Would love to meet you some time.  I won't be at the Dec. meeting on the 5th, because that's also my office Christmas party.  It will be a pot luck at the WLS support group meeting.  Wish I could go, but guess I'll have to miss it this year.

Some people might not support my WLS decision.
Those people remind me of slinkys. Not good for much but it would would bring a smile to my face if someone pushed them down the stairs.

Hello Fellow Iowans!

Does anyone know of a bariatric support group in the Des Moines area?

My surgeon's office (IA Health Bariatrics) has one that meets on a Saturday morning once a month, but I wondered if there are others.

Thanks!

This pain makes my teeth chatter.  Somehow my gyro factor wasn't taken into consideration during the surgery, I got hooked up together all wrong. One of the prerequistes for a circumferential belt lift from Coralville, IA plastic surgeons,  Dr. Cram and Dr. Aly, should be you need to be a cadaver. They treated my groin like it was a snot rag.
