Topic: Anyone from Dubuque here? Or close to Dubuque?
Hello
Alittle about myself. My name is Dawn and i am 26 years old. I have 4 children, who are 9, 7, 4 and 2. I work full time at McKesson which is a software company for doctors offices. My current weight is 230lbs and i would like to get down to at least 150lbs. I have been on weigh****chers for 4 months and it didnt do a whole lot for me even tho i was following it. I have to do 2 months with a physician diet and then i can have my surgery. I am going with Dr Glas**** in Waterloo. I just attended a seminar last week and really enjoyed it. I have title 19 right now and they will only cover the Gastric bypass. I am alittle worried about having it since people are telling me bad things about it, but i trust the dr to tell me everything i need to know.
Well i am not sure what else to say. Anyone who can offer me any information on the good, bad and the ugly of this surgery PLEASE email me. My email addresses are [email protected] OR [email protected] Either one would be fine.
Thanks so much and GOOOOOD luck to everyone here who is about to have the surgery!

Topic: RE: Constant pouch pain
You poor thing! I pray they get you fixed and am so sorry you are in such pain. Of course, it's not right to be in pain when you eat and drink. If this had happened within 6 month of your surgery, it would be easier to explain, but 4 years out, I don't know what to tell you.
Good luck and hang in there. I hope you get results REAL soon!

Topic: Constant pouch pain
I was wanting to post this to see if anyone else has had this problem before. If you have what did you and your dr do about it? I am trying to find some answers. I posted this on the complications board and have not heard from but one person, so I was hoping to get some answers here.
TIA

I am almost 4 years post op and have just started having problems. First, I was diagnosised with severe anemia. Secondly, discovered that I have blood in my stool. Not sure how long that has been happening. Saw a surgeon and he suspects that I am bleeding from inside my pouch where they hooked up my intestines. He said that the acid producing part of the stomach is what they make the pouch is the acid producer of the full stomach and since my stomach has been split up the bottom half is not receiving the acid that it is wanting and so the pouch continues to make the acid, which in turns ends up producing to much acids which eats away at the pouch and the stoma. I was put on Zantac to help with the acid. I have been scheduled for an endoscopy at the end of this month. Thirdly, this past Tues early AM, I shot up in bed with severe puch pain. I have never experienced anything like it in my life. After that I have been unable to drink or eat anything without having pain in my pouch.
I went to the dr on Tues. and they said that I was suffering from gastris and changed my medication to Nexium. The dr. told me that it would take effect with a day or two. This dr. was not my regular dr.
On Wed. the pain was not subsiding so I went to the ER at the hospital where I had my surgery done in hopes to be seen my the surgeon that did the procedure. They took an abdominal x-ray and told me that everything structurally looked ok. Sent me on my way.
Thursday, I followed up with my PCP and was still having pain when eating and drinking anything. He isolated the pain to the right side of the pouch. I believe that is where they hook us back up. I was also in tears and told him that I needed to get this resolved. He told me to go back to the basics, when I first got out of surgery. So clear liquids, cottage cheese, refried beans and eggs. Still when I eat those things and drink my water I still have pain.
Has anyone gone through this before? I am needing support and some advice on what else I need to have the drs. check for. My email is [email protected]
TIA
Stephanie
Topic: Rumor has it . . . Mercy Capital
I have heard from some very reliable sources that Mercy Capital is going to stop doing the RNY and go strictly to the lap band. Has anyone else heard this as well. I am not to happy as when I went to the lecture before I had my surgery they said that they wouldn't do them since their success rate was not as high as the lap band. I would have definitely had the lap band done. Now I am having problems and I am almost 4 years out.

Topic: Dr. Glas**** in Cedar Falls anyone?
Hi all. I am just in the starting stages of getting all of my testing done. I have had my consultation, psyh eval, and sleep study (waiting for results of this). I was just wondering if anyone else has had lap band done by Dr. Glas**** and what your experience was if you don't mind sharing.
I am really excited and yet so scared and skeptical at he same time.
Anyway any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!
Topic: Hi All!
It seems like I never have time to pop in here anymore - except every 6 months or something! OK, I know it hasn't been that long, because my son had been born and he's not 6 months yet...
Anyway, just an update. I had some early blood work done that Angie and I had set up, 3-4 months post partum. (For those who don't know, I had a big oops and got pregnant before a year out... I really don't recommend that!) Especially because of nursing the baby, she had wanted to check and make sure everything was on the up and up. For the most part, everything is fine. The last time we checked, my protein was a little low, but I had already up'd it and it's now fine and my platelets had been low consistently... now both are good, so hey, I can't argue with that.
My youngest is now almost 4 months old and he's just a super baby. We moved and got a new puppy, and our cat ran away. She actually ran the other day - the day before my hubby left the freakin' country... exactly what I need to deal with! So far, I seem to be the one who is the most upset about it and we've been searching for her. It's crazy... four kids, two dogs, the missing kitty, hubby in Costa Rica and activities every night until he gets home. No wonder I'm hiding out on the computer right now!!
I'm still holding strong at 145-150, haven't regretted my surgery choice for one minute!

Topic: RE: Sleep Apnea test tonight!
I had my sleep study done back in March and I thought the same thing before I went in for it. But it was not that bad. I actually slept pretty ok even with all of the wires hooked up to me. Good luck.

Good luck with getting some sleep. It will be great to get it done and finished.
