Topic: RE: I'm one of those statistics..
I am not yet banded but I can relate.  7 years ago I went on Phen Fen and lost all of my excess weight.  Felt wonderful!!!  Had a breast reduction and lift, wore a size 6.  Hubby became very jealous.  He was always 'watching' me when we would go out or whatever.  Complained I had 'lost too much' but in reality I was still over weight (according to BMI calculator) and I was doing everything under doctor supervision so I was doing it the healthy way.  In the end both of us just decided we just weren't happy together anymore.  We seperated and then divorced a year later.  After the divorce I started putting the weight back on and now I am 58 lbs heavier than what I was when I first started losing 7 years ago. I am back in that deep dark, feel so ashamed of myself spot.  Can't wait to have the lap band and get myself healthy and feeling better again.   I am remarried now, 1 year ago last May, and I have to admit that I do think about what happened with my first marriage over the weight lose. I have decided that I am going to go through with it.  I want to feel healthy and happy again.  In the long run I know I will be a better mother and wife.   Keep your head up and good luck!!  You are not alone....this happens a lot.

Topic: RE: I'M APPROVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have all pre op testing finished. Just need to visit a pulmonologist and have blood work done after approval.  my doc is ordering the pulmonologist appointment though so that I will have that done when/if we get the approval.  Mary at Dr. Glass****s office told me that if that is done then the only waiting I would have to do would be for the 2 weeks liquid.  I hope once they submit we will get a decision back right away.  I really want to have this done in July before my kids go back to school. My daughter is almost 16 and my son is 14.  They lost their dad 4 years ago at the age of 35 due to complications with diabetis so it is really important to them to be with me to 'make sure I am ok.'  They are very mothering children so it is really important for me to try to do this when they will be around for their piece of mind.   Anyway, congrats on your surgery date.  Wish I wouldn't have had to do supervised diet.  I could have had this done but on the other hand that is ok because now it is summer and the kids are home so no missing school. Good luck and maybe I will see you at the hospital.

That's weird that yours requires it and mine didn't.  I want the RNY but they applied for approval for both.  I was only approved for the RNY ... I think because of the BMI being higher than 50 is the reason. I'm tentatively set to go for July 26th assuming my labs come back ok.  It 's going to be awhile before I can get into the pulmonologist and endoscope office.  If I didn't have to wait for those appts I'd be much sooner!!

I also have BCBS of Iowa Alliance Select.  Good for you getting it without the supervised!!! I was told by 3 people at the Insurance and Dr. Glass****s office there was no way around it.  2 BCBS reps  told me that I had to have a medically supervised diet within 2 years of applying.  I have been on phen fen in the past and done 2 supervised diets but they didn't count because it was over 2 years ago.  Oh well. The supervised diet is completed.  I just hope I am approved the first try.  Really want to have this done in July!!! Are you having lap band or RouxenY?  Just wondering because I was also told BCBS of Iowa wouldn't pay lap band for patients with BMI of 50 or higher.  I think it should be our choice what we have not the insurance. Anyhoo, I think it is great that you are getting so close.  I am sooooo excited for you!!! Good luck to you and keep me posted.  A

Congratulations to both you & Stacy for choosing Dr G. He did my surgery 3.5 years ago & I have nothing but good to say about his program, staff, & him. I think if you have a positive experience, you feel that way about whichever surgeon you have.  Now about Iowa City, I don't have personal experience with them. I do know that a few years ago they really didn't do a very good job with follow-up after the surgery. They didn't have a support group & their patients sort of felt like they were just forgotten once the surgery was done. However, I understand all that  changed a year or so ago.   Dixie

Luckily I didn't have to do a supervised diet.. I think because I'm above a 50 BMI plus I can so that I have been trying.  Which BCBS do you have? I have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Iowa Alliance Select.

I am so sorry that you didn't get good treatment there. Susan started shortly after I had my surgery. There was another nurse there named Denise and she was AWESOME!!! I miss her being there so much I can't hardly stand it. I am glad that you were able to find another place that you were happy with. Stephanie

Congratulations!!!!  Wow insurance approval was fast.  I just had my last visit for supervised diet yesterday and my pcp has to fax to Dr. Glass**** and then they will be submitting to BCBS for me also.  Hope mine goes as fast as yours.  I am finished with all pre op testing.  My pcp scheduled them and I have been doing those over the last couple of months while doing the supervised diet so once I am approved it will be total blood work up right before surgery.  Mary at the office told me she thinks by the middle or end of July also.   Good luck and again congratulations.  You must be soooo excited!!! I can not wait to join you.

I went to dr.Eibes, I didn't look farther because I was very happy with him and his staff.  The surgery was excellent, the staff has been wonderful.  I went to my PCP and got all of my history and took it with me when I went for my consult. They wored hard getting everything together for me.  I would highly recomend him. Lea Ann
