Topic: How did YOU choose RNY or Band?
I came to the decision for WLS seeking the lapband, then switched to RNY,  now am back to my original decision to have the Lapband. What influenced your decision as to the band or bypass? Please share if you don't mind! :)

That IS too bad for someone to be making such bad choices. I hope if I get the opportunity (please o' please, insurance, come through for me!), that I will be able to make good choices, esp in the harder early days. i really do feel comfortable with the band...love the idea of safer and quicker recovery, plus not rearranging my insides if I don't have to. I was surprised the office said their practice is more bands than anything now, maybe only two RNY's a month compared to tons more bands.  Glad to hear you're doing ok! That gas sounds like a real treat.....not! :)

Just wondering how you are doing?  Are you getting nervous?  Did you order that boost breeze or did you find something else to try?  I am getting nervous myself. 2 days to go.  Can't believe it is here already.   Hope you are doing well.  Not long now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm doing pretty good!  I may have overdone it a bit yesterday running some errands, but I've learned I've gotta slow down a little. I feel great!  The first 3 days were the hardest!  I still have some pain, but it is very manageable!  Still some gas, okay, maybe more than SOME.....lol.....my stomach was rumbling and grumbling and making all kinds of noises last night I couldn't sleep.  I ended up on the toilet for quite a bit - you know what they say - liquid in, liquid out (diarrhea) - I finally got to bed and got some sleep, but the stomach noises continued. I have absolutely no regrets about getting the band!  I just heard from a friend yesterday that knows a gal here in town who has the bypass about 2 weeks ago and is already sabotaging herself!  I just don't understand that!  She is only about 2 weeks out from surgery, a major surgery, and ate Kentucky Fried Chicken!  Can you imagine?  I guess she got really sick, which I think she totally deserved!  Not only is it too soon to eat solids, but KFC?  It's not even healthy!  She didn't give up smoking before her surgery and she didn't give up the pop either, not sure about now.  But it seems to me she really wasn't ready for the lifestyle changes she needed to make.  It just really makes me mad cuz I know this girl is on Social Security Disability (because of her weight) and has Medicare and Medicaid and that it is our tax dollars paying for her surgery!  And she can't even follow the rules - geesh! Sorry, I just needed to vent about that....lol I hope everything goes smoothly for you for your insurance approval!!! Keep in touch and let me know how you are progressing! JoDee

JoDee, how are you doing? I'm anxious to read about your experience! I went for my consult with Dr. Eibes today, and, surprisingly, he seems to favor the LapBand for me. I really thought I wanted RNY, but after spending today thinking it all over and reading tons, I think I'm back to my original decision, which was for the band. Any regrets? I need insurance clearance, I'm a tad worried. Nova said she's optimistic, but, of course, no guarantees and to start the diet just in case.  My insurance covers it (BC/BS of MN), but I wonder about being told to have a diet first, etc. My medical file is slim for the past 3 years, just annual exams and some mentions of obesity and diet. I do have hypertension, medicated, and joint pain though, plus medical records from the late 90s with Xenical and other wl efforts. Anyway....hope you have an easy time of it!

Hi, I will be in Council Buffs for 3 days at a conference.  Is there anything that is a must see or do?  I did spend my college days in Lincoln, and have been to Omaha many times, but have never spent any time in Council bluffs. I am open to any suggestions.  Thanks for your help.

Topic: Seminar & Consultation Date

The seminar date finally came.  I attended Dr. Glass****'s seminar in Cedar Falls on the 17th.  His office called me this morning and scheduled my initial consultation with them on Aug 9th.  I have also spoken with Dr. Raju's office in Waterloo and scheduled my physch eval that same day. I am so excited things are finally moving.

I have been having a lot of pain in my abdomin so have been to my PCP to see what I can find out. After an abdominal ultra sound and blood work she referred me on to a gastroenologist(sp?). I went to see him last Friday.  He scheduled me for a colonoscopy and EGD and CT scan.  I had these all down this past Monday and Tuesday.  Tomorrow I have to have  small bowel follow through x-ray done. Hoping they will figure out what is wrong.  I figure even if these test don't figure out the problem, I have at least got some of the pre-op test requirements out of the way.  I have also have an overnight pule ox test done.  It showed my oxygen level to be dropping down in the low 80's while I am sleeping.  So I also have my full sleep study scheduled for Aug 3rd.
