Topic: Anyone live in Cedar Rapids/Marion Area?
I am looking for a new GP doc.  I have not been very happy with the reactions I have gotten when people find out I had WLS.  I am looking for a doc in this area that is supportive of my decision and knows how to deal with any issues I may have.  Does anyone in this area have any suggestions.

Dear Jen, It's nice to see someone from this side of the state on the boards.   I have heard of people joining Weigh****chers and doing well.  But I really do best when I focus on my proteins and basics.  I try to limit my starchy carbs to just one serving per day.  And of course the dreaded exercise.  I do it but still don't like it.  I find going to the support group helps keep me motivated.   Good luck, Sally

Topic: HELP!!!! Does anyone know how to finance a cosmetic procedure?

I was wondering if anyone out there knows how to finance cosmetic surgery?  My insurance company says that removing my "pannis" is cosmetic and they won't cover it.  My insurance also has an exclusion on my policy that they won't cover weight loss surgeries of any kind.  I need help!!!!     I need to get this extra skin "weight" removed since it weighs like 50 pounds or more. Topic: U of IA Hospitals and Dr. Gerke?
My local gastroenterologist(sp?) ordered a CT scan on me due to some abdominal pain I have been having.  The CT showed a growth on my pancreas.  He has now referred me to Dr. Gerke at the U of IA Hospitals.  Just wondering if anyone has been to this doctor or heard anything about him.  I am scheduled to see him this Wednesday.

Are you getting enough protein?  You should be getting a minimum of 60 gms a day with 80 being better.  Also check your total calorie count.  If it's less than 1200 you might need to eat more.  If you aren't getting enough calories, your body can go into starvation mode and you won't lose.  If you aren't getting all your water in, you may be dehydrated.  If you are dehydrated, you can actually gain wt.   There are a lot of us at over 2 years out that are having problems getting those last pesky pounds off.  For me, it's what I eat.  I have tended to eat too many carbs.  Part of that stems from the hypoglycemia I experienced starting at 2 years out.  I recently had part of my pancreas removed to correct this and I dropped 10 pounds in about a week.  Now I just need to keep it going.  I still haven't given up on getting to my goal wt of 142.   You might want to try the time-out diet.  You just drink 3 protein shakes a day and that's it.  It's been talked about on the WLS Grads board.  I don't have the disciple to do that but am trying to do a modified one.  We'll see how that goes.
