Thank you both so much.  I have been in the interview process for a new doc and when I tell them so far that I had wls they get this look on their face and start preaching to me about everything.  I am not looking for a lecture I still see my surgeon every six months and will for 2 years I just want a regular doc to see for everything else.  I will call both offices and go from there.

I see Dr. Bradley Beer with Mercy.  He is located on Blairsferry Road near the Edgewood Road intersection.  His phone # is 365-7521.  He has been very supportive of me with my decision to look into WLS.  They also have a lab right in the office, so no need to go out for that.   I know he is taking new patients. Me and my mother both have had surgery and we see Dr Tammy Obrien and Dr Julie Sterling at Family Medicine Specialist on 8th Ave near Mercy Hospital.  They are both great.  I actually still see my surgeon for blood work, I am dealing right now with Vit D deficiency. But Dr Sterling follows my mom's blood work.  I am not sure if either are taking new patients but you could give them a call, 319-364-8704.  It is a practice of 5 female drs and a male PA.  I actually really like all of them.  They also see my 18 month old daughter.  Good luck Kourtney

Topic: RE: HELP!!!! Does anyone know how to finance a cosmetic procedure?
I have spoken with a lawyer but she couldn't guarantee that we would win.  Plus, I don't have a lot of extra money hidden in my house.  I have back problems, knee problems, and I have sleep apnea to name a few.  I had to go in to debt for this surgery since I already have a mortgage on my home.  I have a family of four and I am the only one working since my husband has some heart problems and has to be careful.  I actually contacted "new image" consulting for financing the procedure and I was informed that I have to weigh about 197 before they will to the surgery.  Well, I weigh about 425...so that is a long weighs to 197.  I am miserable all of the time and hate being out of breath just walking thru my house.

Topic: Out of the hospital!! Surgery went great!
I had my surgery with Dr. G on August 2nd and everything went GREAT! The nursing staff was truly WONDERFUL.  We're staying at a local hospital until next Thursday. I'm still a little ouchy, but pain meds have really been great to manage my pain.

You might want to talk to a lawyer.  Or try to secure a home equity loan to pay for it yourself.  I would think with that much excess skin, you are susceptible to a whole host of problems, like back problems etc.  Don't give up!

Topic: RE: HELP!!!! Does anyone know how to finance a cosmetic procedure?
Yes, my surgeon has tried to submit the "pannis" removal (excess skin) to my insurance for pre-approval.  I did have some rashes and took pictures but the insurance  company wouldn't look at the pictures.  We went thru all 3 levels of appeals with no success.  My excess skin weighs about 60 pounds....which I would love to have removed.  In all of the denials, my insurance company called the procedure "cosmetic".

Is it excluded or does it say "cosmetic"?  Because the excess skin we need removed is NOT cosmetic.  Check with a plastic surgeon and have them try to submit it.  Be sure if you have rashes, that you are having them documented and treated.  The rash thing is pretty key in this process.  That changes it from cosmetic to necessary.  The only thing you are out is your time and possibly the consult fee with the plastics doc.  Give it a whirl and be presistant.
