Hope  Sandy  has  good  luck  with  the  liquid   diet.  I  have  bought  everything  but  the  popsicles.   Thanks  Carol.  Will  keep  you  all  posted.    Karen

Karen,

Try to keep your focus on the end goal of having a healthy lifestyle.  The surgery is simply a tool to help you with that, so in the meantime, do the things you are going to be doing the rest of your life............exercising every day, eating healthy and drinking a lot of water.  Keep your chin up and remember, you didn't gain the weigh in a short amount of time, so getting to the surgery part of the weight loss journey you are on is going to take a few months too.  Everyone is different and you will get to the surgery part when it's time.  Not to defend the bariatric team you are working with, but remember, people take vacations, get sick or go to trainings so that could be part of the reason you haven't heard anything yet.

Please hang in there and keep posting on here.  We all are here for you and will do what we can to help you through the tough times.

Topic: protein requirements during liquid phase
I will soon be entering the pre-surgery liquid diet phase . Does anyone have ideas on how to meet the 30mg requirement for protein on a 1,000 calorie diet? I have unflavored protein powder which has 21 grams of protein per scoop. I've heard you can put it into soups and jellos. I'm not able to have any milk products. Not sure if I can have soy.  I'd appreciate your help!

I'm so sorry. I can't imagine what the delay is. I would call different people (Kim, insurance; Mary, nurse; physician assistant, etc.****il you can get someone to respond. I know I've had a hold up on receiving some letter -- probably tells the details, etc. It can't be mailed out until they have all the faxed info/letters of clearance for surgery from my tests. Some doctors, I learned, hadn't faxed them in as I had asked, so I had to re-request that on Friday. I'll call Monday to make sure they received everything this time.

Keep me posted. I was hoping we'd be kinda going through this process at roughly the same time!

Topic: Elective Plastic Surgery: Explore "afterthoughts" before you may need to
Hypothetically speaking and god forbid, what if your plastic surgery does turn out very badly due to some sort of mistake or mishandling or whatever ? Let's say you remain alive and barely functioning but with  crippling  horrible pain and your quality of life is severly jeopardized    You might want to  check with a few attorneys in your city "before" having whatever elective plastic surgery procedure you may be considering to get an idea of what legal recourse would be available to you if something goes wrong  and you need expensive follow up treatment or therapy.

I realize I am late with my answers but wanted to let you know that Dr. Glas**** was my surgeon 26 months ago and after all of the jumping around with tests it was all worth it, was at 384 at my heaviest and now am at 225#.  I had a few complications after the surgery because I thought I was having a heart attack because of the pains in my chest where the air had been in my abdomen during surgery, and wasnt told that I would have these pains, I am 64 now and had high bp but have been off all pills but one for depression which I still suffer from. , I try and attend the meetings, I will the april one, but I work at the hospital in vinton and I have to ask to have it off in order to be able to go and I cant do it all the time.

Topic: DIRE
My situation is dire.  Seemingly no  way out other than waiting 4 years for social security retirement benefits so I can lay in bed all day with my pain unless some how I can get diagnosis that my inner leg skin (pelvic slope)  was tightly brought up across  my groin and femoral triangle neck ( very highly charged nerve bundle area) to an area just under my hip to make up for doctors not factoring  how much skin should be cut off during a circumferential belt lipectomy. to help with buttock/thigh sagging  from overliposuction but turned out to be excessive tummy tuck to remove an apron of skin that I SIMPLY DIDN"T HAVE.   There was absolutly nothing wrong with my front area but it was removed (maybe they had to do this but I don't get it and it hurts) and all adipose was scraped away taking all the power or suspensive value out of my skin before it was sewn back together.)   I waited 6 years to strongly complain because I knew that the statute of limitations might interfere  politically and there would be problem because of malpractice issues. But after that time there should be nothing politically to inhibit a diagnosis however I'm blind sided every time I try to get help for terrific pain and disability.  There is attitude here in Nebraska that doctors only make one mistake out of 100 and so I should just go away.  It's been 5 years since the statute was lifted.  I can't go on much longer like this, one day at a time for 4 more years. although I've been "1 day at a timing"  it  for 10 years now, I keep getting worse. Horribly mutilated by plastic surgeons trying something reckless on me.  Just want to rest somehow. I'm splitting apart like a wishbone.  My body     is ruined , personality ruined, family ruined , life going down horrible tube.  Any help or advise would be appreciated. I emailed  mame ( Mothers against Medical Error)  for advise re: patient/ victim advocacy this  morning but they are probably on side of children mostly.
Ralph Nadar where are you, when I need you?

This site is awesome. Most other plastic surgery web sites. ie.  liposite.com  blocked me out years ago. I think I actually shut down a great sort of " free range" plastic surgery board that used to be on AOL years ago. My situation wasn't positive enough. I've been posting for a couple of years on here. I don't see how they let me continue since revenue for this site must come from advertising mostly.  Thanks ObesityHelp for being here for me.

Topic: Problem still with some things
I had the gastric bypass in 2005. Wondering if anyone else has this problem.
When I am upset or nervous, I can't seem to swallow. It just seems to close up. I thought at first it was kinda normal. But, almost 6 yrs out it still happens. More times that not. Any advise would be appreciated.

Thank you
Deb

I  think  the  Bariatic  fusion  has  the  best  overall  vitamin  count  in  it.  May  go  with  that  to  keep  from  adding Calcium  all the  time  to  others.
I  had  my  EDG  this  morning  in  Waterloo.  It  was  no big  deal  did  not  talke  long  and  they  put  me  out  so  did  not  know  it  happened.  They  confirmed  a  hiatal  hernia  which  I  was  sure  was  there and  that  will be  fixed  with  the  surgery.  Will  be  so  glad  to  get  rid  of  the acid  reflux.
I  was  270 at   highest.  lost  a little.   I  am  just  under  5'3"  I  am  going  to  the  support  meeting  Monday   night  just  because  it  is  free  and  I  want  to  confirm  some  things   I  have ?  about.    I  just  have  a  sleep  study  next   Sunday  night  and  then  a  cardiologist  appt on  The  14th  and  then  shoud  be  able  to  set  a  date.
I   know  a  lady  that  had  this  done  at 70  and  she  got  along  good but  her's  was  in  Grinnell.  I  ins.  has  Dr.  G and listed and  that  is  all he  does  so  they  ok  it  .
Let  you  know  how  I  get  lang  with  the  rest  and  you  can   keep  me  up  on  your  stuff.  Karen
