Hi Carol!

They didnt really tell me where to get the vitamins at the pre-op appointment. I got a lot of handouts/papers though, and I havent looked them over yet (it was very overwhelming again yesterday) so maybe there is something in there. Amy gives you something she calls your new bariatric "bible" which is a book that goes over all the diet stuff post-op and it talks about the vitamins...it has a schedule of when to take them, as some of them say "do not take this with ____" ect. so I was glad to have that to go off of as i was worried about how to get them all in with all these "restrictions" also. I know like Sunny said, you can get them at Walmart and such, I havent priced them yet, but I need to do that and also stock up on my carnation milk so that I am prepared. Oh ya, and another helpful thing..she (amy) will give you a "shopping list" of things to buy before surgery that will help for not only after surgery but also for the liquid pre-op diet. I thought that was a god send!! Lists are great for me, then i know im not forgetting anything!! Good luck, let me know what you find out if you go do any pricing/shopping!!

Nothing wrong with wanting all of your little duckies in a row, I am one of those people who cant do anything right inless everything is lined up the way it needs to be so I completly understand.
Since we arent required to have protien drinks, get your carnation powdered milk bought, if you have a Sam's Club membership you can get a big box of it there pretty cheap. Im not sure where  in Iowa you are, but theres a Sam's here in CR.When I asked Debi she said that Flintstones vitamins twice a day ( some surgeons go nuts about using Flintstones but they are complete nutrition). Chewable calcium three times a day, Vitamin b12 sublingual once a day a Vitamin B once per day and Iron once a day. ( You should have gotten a list in your folder the first day it is in with the diet stuff from Amy) You can get all of those at WalMart at reasonable prices.
I am already trying to take the vitamins, just to get in the habit of taking them.
Good Luck!

So glad to hear that things went well today for you.  I think you can lose the weight you need to lose and even if it isn't quite 40 pounds, maybe Dr. J will consider doing the surgery for you anyway.  If the therapist thinks you'll be fine for the surgery, then I'd feel good about that too.  He wouldn't say something he didn't believe, you know?

Keep posting and working hard toward that surgery.  We're all heading that direction and we'll all get there!

Topic: RE: New to this board
Hi Kristi, welcome aboard the board :)
I am pre-op waiting for some stuff to go thru before I can submit for approval.
As far as protien drinks go, my program doesnt require protien, but with all of my research I have tried a few. I really liked the Chike shakes, they had good flavor and not much of an after taste. If you click on their ad I think you can still get free samples.
Be as long winded as you need to be, this board is for support. I remember years ago when I was first researching the surgery the Iowa board was way more active. But maybe we can get it there again.. we are all in the same boat and all need support.
Good luck on your journey!!

I went to my new psych doc today, more meds, but he thinks as long as I take my meds and go to therapy theres no reason I shouldnt have my surgery!! YAY! I am hoping to have all of my ducks in a row and my 40 lbs lost that Dr Jamal wants me to lose by late spring, early summer surgery. I have my fingers crossed!

When I went to my psych consult in Iowa City I saw Holly, she is a sweetheart, but I am going to therapy and to the psych here in Cedar Rapids, with my PCP and the surgeons office in IC I spent too much money in gas going down there already without adding another doc at the U.

Carolia, it is better to get your questions answered beforehand and know the answers before any issues come up after the surgery I know they are used to people with lists of questions.

Jenn, when you go to post there should be a bar at the top of the box you type in that has font options, if not there may be a drop down box choose the HTML Editor #1 option and the font choices will show up, then just choose what you want.

Thanks for the support guys! I appreciate it  < group hug lol

Just looking for information on where the best place is to get the post-surgery vitamins/supplements.  Maybe they will tell me when I go for pre-op but I just thought I'd toss it out there and see if anyone has some suggestions.  I want all my "ducks in a row" before I have my surgery, I guess.

Thanks,
Carol

Jenn,

You are right!  This board is active and it's because of all of us.  We need each other for support as we go through our pre-surgery stuff and all.  Even those who have gone through what we are going through and are post-op are needed.  We need to hear what you went through, what worked for you, what you felt, what your experiences were, etc.  We need each other's support and this is a great place to get it.

Like you said, keep it up Iowa!

Topic: RE: Pre-Op Today
Hey Jenn,

No, no school here today due to the weather, I believe.  The teachers have an in-service day but the kids are off.  I agree with you that it's horribly cold outside..........colder than yesterday, actually!  I don't blame you for keeping your little ones home, especially the one not feeling too well.

I'm doing fine with my eating plan.  I haven't been to the clinic to be weighed since Nov. 14th so I'm anxious to see how much more I've lost since then.  I was down 10 pounds that day, so hopefully I'm down at least another 10, if not more.  I haven't been able to get any exercise in the past three days because of the weather.  I have a Gazelle but I haven't gotten on that since the weekend.  Good day for me to do that, huh?

Yes, I am getting excited about my pre-op.  How long were you there for yours?  I know yours took a little longer because of your gallstone discovery, but at least I'd have an idea of how long I'll be there.  I had to take the whole day off because my appointment is at 10:30, so there's really no rush to get in and out, I guess.

Only 12 more days for you now.  I'm so excited for you!  It is just going to be so wonderful not having to deal with the issues surrounding obesity anymore, isn't it?

Stay warm and take care.  Hope your little one is okay today.
