Who are you seeing?  I can no longer go to UIHC due to insurance changes....I went to Genesis for stomach pain and they said it was just spasms and gave me some pill for it......I am positive they didn't check for bacteria....it was barium swallow test with follow thru and stuff like that.  We really need to give each other a call and compare notes.  My iron issues have been since almost the begining, but the potassium and B are becoming more apparent now.  I was suppsoed to have a sinus surgery on Halloween and they had to cancel because my potassium was critically low even on prescription calcium.  Now I am on MEGA doses just to keep me normal.  I am seeing a new  doctor in a couple weeks......my hands are so tied here in Dubuque, cause no-one has experience with all this stuff and the problems.....I often "inform" them with things I learn here or from my own research.  Vitalady had been a great help, but I NEED to find a doc that can help me.  I hate having to take a million pills at 30....I can only imagine how bad it will continue to go.  Let me know who your seeing, I am willing to drive as long as they are in my network.  I am sick of being sick!!!  Are you maintaining your weightloss?  I have gone up a few pounds, but it is entirely my own fault......going back to diet pop, having alcohol.......bad stuf creeps back way too easy after 5 years!!  Let me know what you find out.  Thanks~ Jesi

Jesi,

I just looked up small bowel bacterial overgrowth and one of the problems is malabsorbtion.  I think you need to go look this up and talk to your doctor.  It might be the answer.

I didn't have any problems with malabsorbtion of iron until last year.  Since you're having major issues with this, you need to ask about it.

Hijack - Hey Jesi,

Do you have abdominal pain?  I saw a new WLS doc today and she said that once you get to be around 5 years out, they are seeing a bacterial overgrowth in the small bowel in some patients.  I have pain after I eat at times and just don't feel well.  I have to go in for some test that takes 3.5 hours but need to figure out how to arrange that with work.  New boss.

Jenn,

Isn't caltrate calcium carbonate?  If so, we don't absorb calcium carbonate very well.  You might want to research that.  It's always been my understanding that if you've had RNY, you need to be using cal citrate.  It's even better to take it with Vit C as you need acid in order to absorb calcium optimally.

Topic: Nerves and Jitters!!
Well..i think my nerves are getting to me! It hit me like a mack truck last night when my husband left for work! All I could think about was how real this was and how quickly it will be here!! With all emotions running through me, i kept thinking..wow..is this really what I want?! Is this worth it? Will I regret it?? I called my husband for re-assurance and he told me if i dont do it I will regret it in 10 years...which is so true! I hung up and started crying...so scary!! Im excited, Im ready for the change (as best as I can be) I know that it is worth everything, but I cant help but wonder if Im making the right decision?! God forbid something were to go wrong...(which im confident will NOT happen), i just worry about my kids and my husband and my family in general! Ok, enough of this downer crap...im over it today mostly! Im still nervous, but Im confident that this is the right choice for me! I believe that if it werent, GOD would have shown me by now!
Thanks for letting me vent!

You can get the Citracal petites anywhere.  I usually get mine at Walmart.

As far as the B6 issues, I'm also hoping that I have no lingering problems.  I'm still having a few issues but I have a lot of issues generally that I'm hopeful Dr. Lamasters can sort out.  I saw her today and she thinks I might have a bacterial overgrowth in my small intestine.  I guess they are seeing that in patients that are around 5 years out.  Figures.  If it's gonna happen, it's going to be me.  Anyway, she is going to figure it out.

I have tried endlessly to get my picture to my avatar and it is not working.  Anyone have a suggestion for me that I haven't already tried??  So far, I have used the web address the Kristi posted and I thought I had it but nope!  I truly am not a big question mark and cannot make it go away.  Anyone want to offer other suggestions????

Thanks,
Carol

Thanks, Jodi.

I appreciate all the input and suggestions that I've gotten.  Common theme is that Walgreen's Hy-Vee or Wal-mart are the places to go.....................besides the websites.  I like the idea of cinnamon flavored calcium because I like cinnamon!

Thanks again for all the input!

Hi Jenn,

Pep talk time now..................you have come this far and you know you can do this.  It isn't that many days that you are going to be hungry..................remember every single diet you've ever been on and the first few days were so bad because you'd get hungry and want to give up.  Those shakes and grumpies will go away after January 28th.  You can do this and you should do this for yourself and your health.  I have faith in you and believe this is only going to get easier!  Hang in there and don't let food control you..................you are strong and you will do this.

Keep posting because you know we are here for you!
