Congratulations, Kristin!  Look at that ticker going down!  As the song says, "you can't always get what you want......................you get what you need"  This is true all the time..............we get what we need at the time, in the place we are at.

Keep posting and letting us know how you are doing..................I can't wait to post on my 8th month anniversary!!

You guys will all be fine, you'll sail through the surgery and be skipping down the 2nd floor halls(ok, maybe shuffling!)
I was also really calm the day before and the day of, I think it's because I knew I had made the right decision in my life.
Do your self a favor though, the day before my surgery, I took measurements of the following:
Weight
Waist
Hips
Chest
Calve
Thigh
Ankle
Wrist
Neck
Bicep
Tricep
I'm not saying you have to take all of them, but during my 3rd week, when I didn't see the scale move, it helped to see that those numbers moved! They won't do this during your visits, so it's something you'll have to do on your own, but I think it will help whenever we hit a stall!  Let me know if I can do anything for you!

OK girlie!
Breathe in... breathe out!
You are having a "1 week freak"!
It is totally normal and I was literally scared to death until the night before my surgery when I got unusually calm. This may seem morbid and hopefully will not scare you further but I made sure all my "ducks were in a row!"
I updated my will, gave copies of my life insurance and all financial info to my sister. It gave me a sense of well being for some strange reason.. besides I knew God didn't want me and the Devil is afraid of me!
You WILL be fine, you WILL be happy you did it!
I am here and close by if you need me!

I switched to Methodist Bariatric program here in Des Moines.  I'm seeing Dr. LaMasters.  Have you considered going up to Mayo?  From what I read on the internet regarding bacterial overgrowth, you seem to have the symptoms.  The biggest issue is cramping, bloating, gas and decreased absorbtion.  Looks like it fits.  The test for it here, they have you drink whole milk (gross) at certain times and they check your breath looking for hydrogen.  If you have the overgrowth, the bacteria changes carby stuff into hydrogen.  I think.  I got quite a few hits when I searched the internet for small bowel bacterial overgrowth.

Hi Jenn,

I'm sure I will be the same way when it actually happens.  This is not a downer, it's what you need to do. No one should go through this lightly.  You are intelligent and have thought about this for a long time.    I see so many overweight ,diabetic, people who's mobility is limited and needing joint replacements etc etc  The list goes on and on and you have decided to get as healthy as you can.  Keep us updated on how you are feeling and it may help someone else going through the same feelings.

Hang in there!  It will be worth it!

Hey Carol,

Choose the pic that you want to use.  Is it a JPEG file?   Go to the site:
http://www.shrinkpictures.com/create-avatar/

On the left side of that page, click on create avatar, then click on the browse button,  then select the picture that you want,  then click on the resize button,  then you will have 3 choices to choose from, then click download this pic now. then click open, then you will see the pic for the avatar.  I'm actually going through the process, so I can tell you how... have to send this and write down the next few steps and then I will post more.

I know what you are going through.  My surgery is a day after yours on the 29th and I have been trying really hard to not let my mind wonder.  But it is very scary and exciting in the same breath.  From what I have read on this forum and other forums on OH what you are feeling is very very normal.  I believe that you and I will be just fine.  I will keep you in my prayers as I hope you keep me in yours.  good luck and Congratulations!

Greetings!  I was lurking on the Iowa message boards and your post caught my eye.  I'm a former SW Iowa resident (Fremont County) *****located to the Twin Cities about 3 years ago.  I still miss my Iowa neighbors and find myself lurking around here just to see who's around.   I am 2 weeks post-op (RNY) and so far consider this surgery to be the best thing I've ever done for myself.

If you weren't at least a little bit nervous, sweetie you wouldn't be normal.  After all, you're changing your entire life, not just your waistline and this is major surgery.  But it sounds as if you're well prepared and have done your homework, so I'm sure you're going to be fine.   Just keep your eyes on the prize . . . and focus on the quality of life you're giving yourself and your kids by making yourself more healthy and energetic for them.   For what it's worth, I don't know a single person *****grets having this procedure.

For what its worth, I'll hold you and your family in my prayers on the 28th for a safe and successful surgery and speedy recovery.  Good luck on your journey!
