WLS at Sartori
Tracie,
A friend & I were just talking about Dr Shah & wondering if he had started doing surgeries alone at Sartori yet. I know he has been there for several months now working with Dr Glas**** & I understand that they had been scrubbing in together & working together.
Rest assured that he is a very skilled surgeon. He, like Dr Glas**** is a fellowship trained laproscopic surgeon. That means he trained a few years in laproscopic surgery doing lots of surgeries. Many of the surgeons who used to do just opens but now are also ddoing Lap surgery get their training during weekends seminars & clinics. Kind of scary, huh? Sartori is lucky to have two fellowship trained laporascopic surgeons. Last I heard, Iowa City only had one.
I checked the website & these are his credentials.
Medical degree received from Aga Khan University Medical College, Karachi, Pakistan.
Surgical internship at SUNY Health Center, Syracuse, New York.
Surgical residency training completed at St. Vincent's Catholic Medical Center of New York, Brooklyn and Queens Division, New York.
Assistant Director of Trauma Surgery/Surgical Intensivist at St. Vincent's Catholic Medical Center of New York, Brooklyn and Queens Division, New York.
Fellowship training in laparoscopic colorectal surgery at Osaka Medical College, Osaka, Japan.
Clinical instructor in minimally invasive/bariatric/robotic surgery at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
Not long after he came to Sartori one of the staff in the office was asked which surgeon of the 2 they would have if they needed surgery & she said Dr Shah because of his bedside manner as well as his skill.
If you are at all concerned, please call & ask about his experience and any other questions you have. I'm sure they won't have a problem with that. It's your right to know.

Tracie,
Congratulations on your upcoming surgery! Dr. Shah saw me in the hospital in November of 2004 when I had complications following gallbladder removal by another surgeon. My original surgeon Dr. Wait went on vacation the day after my surgery so when I had complications Dr. Shah was on call. I was extremely impressed with him. He was very knowledgeable and thorough. Like Dixie I have been wondering if he had started doing surgeries on his own yet. Dr. Glass**** is a perfectionist and very thorough. If he wasn't completely confident in Dr. Shah he would not have him doing surgeries on his own. I would have been comfortable with him doing my surgery in December if it had been scheduled that way. Enjoy your journey, the best is yet to come!

Tracie,
I had RNY surgery on 10-10-05 by Dr. Glas**** with Dr. Shah assisting. Who actually did what is impossible to say, but I'm very happy with the results. Knowing how particular Dr. Glas**** is, I would feel confident that Dr. Shah is ready to go on his own, or Dr. Glas**** would not let it happen.
Good luck with the up coming surgery,
Jeanna
