I HAVE A DATE...let the countdown begin!
I got the call on March 24 that I have a date at Mercy Capitol. That's the good news! The bad news is it's not til June 19. 84 DAYS!! It is nice to have something definitive now, though, but it feels so far away!
I did tell them that I was very flexible and if someone backed out at the last moment that I could get in very quickly thanks to a very flexible work schedule but not for sure if that counts for much or if there is really an opportunity for that to happen.
For now, i am jsut working on dropping the 15 lbs that they want prior to surgery and getting on a good regimen of vitamins and protein. I have also been walking about 50 minutes 5 nights a week (about 3 miles) on our treadmill hoping that will get me in a bit better shape for surgery.
Always welcome to thoughts/encouragement/questions and I look forward to getting more active on the boards closer to my date.
Congrats!!! Before you know it you'll be doing all the pre op stuff and getting ready for surgery and drinking the gross stuff the day before surgery. Mercy is great that is were I had my surgery at. To bad you have to wait until June but like I said just try and stay busy and hopefully time will go fast. I remember wanting my surgery done and I didn't want to wait so I feel for you. If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me. I'll try and help if I can. Good luck and keep us updated.

8 months out
Tamara I'm not sure if your doctor will have you drink it but my doctor at Mercy has you drink this stuff the day before surgery to clean you out. Some people say it's not that bad but I drank the cherry kind and it was bad. My firends mom drink the citrus kind and said it wasn't to bad. But It was all worth it. I'd do it all over just to feel the way I feel now!!

Congratulations Blake, June is just around the corner. The amount of walking you are doing is great, keep it up. It will make recovery so much easier. I too will be having RNY myself in May. The Iowa site is a little slow and I see you also posted to the mens site. The mens board is a good place for men to check out, lots of information from knowledgeable people. Good luck.

Congratulations on your surgery date. You are now on the waiting train. It seems to move so slow. Soon enough you will be on the roller coaster believe me it is the ride of your life, and moves much faster. So many ups and downs along the way. You have a good attitude going into this and will do wonderful. I didn't get my butt in gear and exercise or take vitamins or anything before my surgery. I didn't have a tough recovery time but I did have some months where I was so weak, I couldn't even go shopping. I wasn't getting in enough protein and I lost alot of muscle in my arms, I now have to get going on building that back up. So keep working those muscles and preparing mentally for this ride. Good luck keep in touch. Cindy G.
