I'm new to this board. I'm having surgery in June, in Davenport..though I live in Clinton. My insurance suggested this site for information and more local support. So hello to everyone, I am glad to be here.

Thank you, it's nice to 'meet' you both! I am learning about the site a little at a time. So far it's a bit overwhelming...but I am sure I will have the gist of it soon enough. Is anyone else from the Quad City area...or having/had surgery at the Genesis Hospital?

hi Laura- I live in Davenport and I go to the support groups at Genesis even tho I had my surgery elsewhere.. have you been to one of the support group meetings yet?? If so we may have met, lol. They are always at 630pm on the 3rd wednesday of the month in case you dont know. preops and postops welcome along with support people if youd like. Good luck on your upcoming surgery! Hi Mandy...I haven't been to a meeting yet. Sadly, I have class on Wed. nights, so am unable to attend until the semester is over. I do plan on attending though, as soon as my class schedule allows. I look forward to seeing/meeting you there! Laura

Thats a first, I too have never heard of insurance companys reccomending this site.....means they must cruise it !!! Welcome! Genesis seems to have a GREAT program.....I have become friends with many a happy cutomer of theirs I am actually gonna see one of the surgeons April 6th.....I am over two years out and having some problems. I had my surgery at U of I. I know a couple WLS gals in Clinton.....a few of them have their own little support groups going....I think one group of them meet at Happy Joes. I am in Dubuque. This board can be slow at times....but it is great!!!! You will have to go to the next support group at Genesis and maybe a bunch of us could meet up Take Care and hope to see you around jesi

Jesi thanks for the welcome!! I will be at the Center on the 6th as well, that is when I have my consult with Dr. C. Maybe I will see you there. Do the Clinton people you know go to the meetings in Davenport? I have learned that support is very essential in sucess with this, and after all these years, I want to succeed more than anything!! I probably won't make the meetings in Davenport until after May, it coflicts with my night class...but I will be there after that!! And yes, BC/BS (Wellmark Iowa) assigned me to a nurse and she will follow my case and act as a liason for any supplimental information that I may need or questions that I may have all at no cost to me. I am very, very surprised at the level of involvement and commitment my Insurance has with this surgery...and quite happy. I look forward to meeting everyone at Genesis, and in this area who is or has gone through this already.. Thanks for the warm welcomes!! Laura

See - that's my insurance carrier too! My case worker was very involved - asking me what my surgeon thought of protein supplements, what shakes I had tried, even what protein got me through the weeks of clear liquids. It really seemed like they *wanted* the information to be able to pass along. I believe I even told her about OH. Heck, maybe you have the same case worker!

I tell you what Amy, as soon as I get her card and such in the mail, I will let you know who it was. To be honest, I was so surprised about the call, I didn't think to write her name down! I am just thrilled with the whole process so far. Now I just have to be patient and wait my turn.
