I bought one here at Obesityhelp, already inscribed with "Bariatric Surgery Patient - No NG Tube". I almost never wear it though.
I have been told that we really don't need to worry, that NG tubes are not usually put into a patient in an emergency room. Airways, yes but that won't hurt the stomach. I've read here on the grad board that in the event of an NG tube being put in that they don't force it if they hit an obstical, which is what would happen if one was put in our stomach.
They did recommend that we carry a card in our wallet with the information. I keep it right next to my surgeon's card in one of the openings for an ID.
I am also allergic to several antiobiotics & have them listed on the card too.
To be honest, now that I've had plastic surgery, it isn't obvious when you look at my body that I've had a gastric bypass (if you don't see my legs, that is). Most of the incisions are gone & the ones that remain are very small & faded. The scars from the plastic surgery are still obvious. I do wonder what would happen in the event of a bad accident but I'm not obsessing about it. I wear my bracelet when I travel but depend on my card otherwise.
