Deer Meat?
I'm just about 3 months out and 80 pounds down, but not doing real well yet with meat. Tuna, meatloaf and dark meat (moist) chicken go down pretty well, but was wondering if anyone has any adivce on deer meat? We have a lot of it. I tried ham and pork chops, that was a definate no-no. Was in the bathroom losing it almost immediately. I'm also wanting to try some fish, but unsure what to try. I'm a little shy when it comes to my food intake right now. I'm not one to like dumping. Refried beans and cheese seem to be my best friends when all else fails.
Any suggestions would be wonderful.

With my dad, hubby, and brother being avid hunters we have deep freezers full of venison. For me it goes down great. Deer jerky, steaks (if marinated to get rid of the gamey taste) But my fave is ground deer meat.....I use it in almost everything.....spagehetti, chili, anything where hamburger is needed. Try it, it is all about trial and error!!! By the way 80lbs in 3 months is amazing Keep up the great work, and Take Care jesi
I'm almost 2 years out and still can't do pork chops. I think that pork is just too lean. Salmon works well as it is usually moist. I also like the tuna fillets in the foil pack. I think it comes in 3 flavors, plain, lemon pepper, and teriaki. I would stay away from the teriaki. Might be too much sugar at this stage. I still eat alot of cottage cheese. I like mine with chives and pepper. In the summer, I put a lot of grape tomatoes in it.
What you are describing isn't dumping. It's the foamies and frothies. Dumping happens usually 30-60 minutes after eating something with a higher sugar content. You will feel flushed, shakey, dizzy, sometimes sick to your stomach, an urge to sleep, some do vomit and have diarrhea. Any combination of those can be dumping. The foamies happen when you eat too fast, don't chew well or eat too much. You get a nasty feeling in your pouch and you start to foam or froth. Then you pray to the porcelein god and generally feel much better.
Early on I could almost count on it if I ate pork chops or chicken. I can do chicken now but never as a leftover. Most of us find we can't do leftover meat. Just seems to be too dry to go down and stay there so I don't even try anymore. If I can't eat it all in one sitting, my hubby or dog get the leftovers.
Eighty pounds in 3 months is really great! Keep up the good work! Have you tried weight control oatmeal by Quaker? I love the stuff.
I want to join Jesi & Lyn in congratulating you on your weight loss. Gret job!
My husband also hunts but fortunately, since I HATE game, has most of it made into sticks, summer sausage, & even bacon. The bacon is sort of a ground meat flattened & seasoned & not greasy. That's the only one I'll eat.
I can't bring myself to eat venison or elk but I suspect that if you can eat beef ok, you'll do fine with deer. Just make sure it's good & tender & that you chew it throughly. If by chance, you do feel as if it is stuck & it doesn't want to come back up, try mixing a teaspoon of meat tenderizer with a cup of warm water & sip it. It will either bring it back up or will soften it enough to let it pass through out of your pouch. This is the only time I recommend drinking when eating, to relieve the pain & discomfort of something that isn't right. The meat tenderizer is recommeneded by many surgeons in this cir****tance. I haven't tried it myself. When I was early out & had trouble with meat, I just drank warm water & usually the foamies would start & it would come up.
As far as other suggestions, I still eat lots of egg, tuna, or chicken salad. I just mix them with a bit of salad dressing and pickle relish and even a bit of shredded cheddar. Lately I have been eating them on a small piece of bread but usually eat it on a salad.
I try to find a way to include extra protein with anything I eat, usually by adding cheese.

Wow what a great accomplishment in 3 mos. Isn't that a great feeling?
I still have alot of trouble with beef, but it is mainly that it doesn't taste good. I can eat barbqued pork, and ham thinly sliced. Actually my surgeon recommended me to try the thin sliced meats and put a little lite Miricle Whip or mayo on it. He said something about the mayo helps us digest the meat better. I don't know. Any how I am not a mayo eatter so I just tried the thing deli sliced meat, it goes down ok but I usually get my protein in with supplements. Food still has a different taste to me. I eat alot of cheese, & eggs. As for fish I just get the oven baked fish sticks pick all the breading off and eat the fish inside. I can not stand salmon any more and boy did I tire of tuna fast. I loved tuna and noodles but can't take the noodles any more. Maybe someday. I haven't given up hope. It takes me so long to eat all the refried beans that I don't do that to often. My freind said that Taco Bell has some awesome beans so I will try them one of these days.
I wish you continued success with your journey and hope to hear more soon. Cindy G.
