Preferences when it comes to the hospital??
Well after some research I have decided to go with Dr. Eibes here in Des Moines. He just recently was profiled in the Des Moines Register because he is going to bring the program back to Iowa Methodist.
Does anyone take into thought the hospital they are going to be at? I seem to be more concerned with the surgeon and not really cared about the hospital, but a relative of mine brought up the fact that Methodist is where that surgeon did the surgeries and had so many deaths. I'm pretty sure it had nothing to do with the hospital, but what do you think?? I have never been to Methodist so I am not sure how the hospital is or anything....
Thank you,
Janine S
This is a hard question but I did worry about the hospital because they are the ones to take care of you after surgery. I only saw my surgeon once a day while I was in the hospital. The nurses are the ones who take care of you. If they are not well trained with what needs to be done after this type of surgery it could make it harder for you. The surgeon is the most important because he is the one doing the surgery but I also looked in to the hospital before I had surgery. I don't think what happened at Methodist was because of the hospital. So I wouldn't worry about that. I just think you should check to see if the nurses are trained with this type of surgery. Good luck on your Journey!!

Thank you Melissa. I keep changing my mind on which surgeon I want to do my surgery. I think I have decided to go with Dr. Hardy in Ames though. I have had 3 sections at Mary Greeley Medical Center so I know the hospital well and always thought the nurses did well. It's REALLY hard to decide on a surgeon....Talk about stress....
Thank you again,
Janine
Hello Janine,
I had my surgery in Grinnell with Dr. Schwartz. Dr. Eibes was in the same office/center. When Dr. Eibes left Grinnell he brought with him his team: Phycian Assistant, head RN, and nutritionist. As far as the hospital staff I can't answer for them. Having his team that he was worked beside would ease my mind a little. In fact my sister is going in for an appointment with Dr. Eibes next week.
See their website for more info and pictures.

Good Luck in your journey.
Janine,
Hey Neighbor, It is too bad Dr. Sundberg out of Boone is not doing this surgery any more, he was great as was the hospital staff. That would be so close for you. I have heard wonderful things about Ames, hopefully that will be a good choice for you. Keep us posted, would love to hear how you do.
