Has anyone had surgery with Dr. David Kermode?

Hi! I have been lurking but decide to take the "leap" and post. I have my consult appointment next week (after a four month wait), with Dr. David Kermode in Grinnell. I wanted to see Dr. Coster but it was a three month longer wait for him and I am anxious to get a surgery date now that I have made this difficult decision. I would sure like to hear about your experience if you know him. I did not see many any posts about him in the surgeon comment area. Thank you. Jan

My girlfriend and I, both went down to Grinnell to see Dr. Kermode. We were not impressed to say the least. In our consultation, we did learn he has lost one patient, and that may not be a bad record but we could not get a straight answer from him as to how many surgeries he has done in total. So, who knows what kind of record that is????? That along with not being able to find anything about him on the OH site made us both skeptical of him to start with. He talks fast and is rather arrogent in our opinions. That in itself does not make him a good or bad surgeon, we switched hospitals so we will not have him as a surgeon. We are going to Fort Dodge and are VERY impressed with Dr. Kyle VerSteeg. We have also heard alot of good things about Dr. Eibes. He was formally from Grinnell but now has a practice there in Des Moines, we think. Good luck in your journey!

Thank you for replying. I have tried emailing 2 people who wrote reviews to see how their surgery went. I will be anxious to see if they reply. I live in Des Moines but Dr. Eibes isn't up and running yet and I am not crazy about the hospital he chose. Good luck to you also. My coworker had her surgery in Fort Dodge and lost over 100 lbs. She is 2 years out now and doing well. She speaks very highly of Dr. VerSteeg!

Hi Jan, I had Dr. Kermode do my surgery just a month ago. I loved him. I thought he was very through in the initial consult. I had four pages of questions that I wanted to ask him and he answered 90% of them before I had a chance to ask them. Yes, he has had one death...from what I remember he told me it was on someone who had a lot of other problems and passed away from an embolism. (I think....I think I have it all listed in my profile). I thought he was very upfront about everything and seemed very nice and very knowlegable. I am doing wonderfully. I had my surgery on a Thursday and was released on Monday (could have been on Sunday but there wasnt any place open to fill my pain scripts). I have lost just over 20 lbs since surgery. JAN I had my consult with Dr kermode and I really liked him he was very honest and open about having one death but the death had nothing to due with his procedure I feel very comfortable with him doing my surgery and I live here in Des Moines I wouldnt go anywhere else besides Dr Kermode I have only heard good things about him
