In the process of switching to Fort Dodge to have surgery. Just wondering if anyone knows if they require a liquid diet pre-op?

You will be seeing Dr VerSteeg, I assume. He is SUCH a WONDERFUL man! I had my surhgery 2 years ago this Feb, and I have lost 200 pounds and am currently pregnant!!! anyway, when he did mine, he did not require a liquid diet pre surgery. He did, however, expect me to lose about 25 pounds before he could do mine, the reason was I weighed over 500 at the time, and for safety reasons, I needed to be under 500...I did, he did the surgery lap, and I have had no complications whatsoever. Dr VerSteeg is a very caring and compassionate man, and Phyllis is GREAT, the rest of his staff is great too! Feel free to email me anytime! and GOOD LUCK!!!

Hi Amy, I don't know about Fort Dodge, but if your surgeon does offer the option of having your surgery lap, take it!! I just had mine on Monday and I feel great. I've gone all day without pain meds and feel fine. Where I went they reqired us to go on a high protein low carb (no grains, or sugar at all ) diet. Fruit was ok but this diet gets your liver in shape (smaller) to make surgery safer. That seemed a better option to me than a liquid diet. Good Luck to you. Terry
