My sugery is in the morning
I'm in the proscess of trying to drink this garbage I have to drink today. IT'S TERRIBLE!!! Oh well I'll get thru it somehow. I haven't posted much but enjoy reading what everyone else writes. Any words of wisdom out there that I can use ??? I don't seem to be very nervous but then again I don't seem to be very excited either, just trying to take things one day at a time.
Thanks
Terry

Terry,
Here is my advice: get out of bed and walk, walk, walk!!! Try to sit in your chair frequently too! It is so important to get moving early to prevent blood clots and promote lung expansion!
I was not nervous the day of my surgery either. It was a day I had planned for so long, and I knew it was right for me. The hours following surgery are a blur. I really do not remember much of anything. You are making this huge change in your life for those you love, and most importantly that is yourself. To be helpful to others, you must help yourself. Rely on those who are willing to provide meals for your family and help out with the housework. Each and every day you will feel stronger inside and out!!!
Blessings, Nicole

Good for you for choosing Genesis! You can have complete faith that you will be treated very tenderly! I am a nurse myself, therefore find myself being critical at times of the care I receive. But I must tell you, I cannot think of one bad thing to say about Genesis and their staff! And I do not even work there! Superb care is what you can expect! My anesthesia doctor was very gifted and everybody made me feel very good about my decision. A couple of the nurses on the 3rd surgical floor have had the surgery themselves!! Do not worry about people doing things to you. Every single person I encountered was very friendly and explained everything to me before it happened- not after it was already done. You will be thankful for the hands you are in. Good luck to you. May I call on you while you are in the hospital? What type of surgery is planned for you? I had lap RNY with Dr. Phelps. I am so thankful this surgery can be done in a less invasive manner.
My thoughts will be with you tomorrow, Terry. You are in good hands.

I'm going to have a lap RNY (hopefully) I've had other surgerys so Dr Christoferson may end up doing an open, but I'm hoping the lap will work.
Sure you can call on me in the hosp if you want to. My husband will be there tomorrow but won't be able to come back up until I'm discharged because he will have his hands full taking care of our 4 boys and working as well. It's about an one and a half hour drive for us to the Quad Cities so he can't just drop in.
We have a 14 year old and a 9 year old then we have two foster sons ages 3 and 15 months, so he will be very busy Our 14 year old is so much help with the little ones though so they'll be in good hands while I'm gone.
I know what you mean about the nurses there at Genesis, I spoke to one a few weeks ago when my husband had to go have an angeoplasty done. I don't remember her name but she came and told me all about her surgery and was very positive and helpful.
Do you go to the support meeting there? It's to far for me, but they had one in Burlington that stopped meeting for awhile. I'm hoping it will start up again because I think that would be a good place to find out information that's helpful.
Thanks,
Terry
Congrats.....I am a little late, and I am sure your resting in bed for the night. You have chosen an excellent program....I went thru U of I but am very impressed with Genesis. Theresa is wonderful and the support group is great (wish I could make it more) My advice is the same.....walk, sip,rest,walk,sip,rest.....The more you walk the less sore you'll become....the more fluids the better.....but of course don't over-do anything.....you have to take it easy as you'll be healing from major surgery!!! Wishing you nothing but the best.....a SUPER smooth surgery with a speedy recovery!! Take Care Jesi
P.S. where is varmouth.....never heard of that town?
