Are there any state employees out there? Open enrollment starts today and the insurance plan I currently have (BCBS Blue Advantage) has a total exclusion on WLS. I'm wondering if any one has any suggestions on an alternate plan? We have so many to choose from it might save me some time on calling all of them!

I'm not a state employee, but had no problem with United health care. Don't get Coventry they have an exclusion also. Good luck if finding an insurance.

I'm not a state employee either, but are you looking for an alternate BCBS plan? I have Blue Access and it's covered... Good luck! Amy

Cindy, I don't work for the state but, if BCBS/Blue Access is available, it paid for my surgery. My out of pocket was minimal, less than $1000. My husband has UHC...his had an exclusion but, paid on some of it. Good luck. Thoughts and prayers are with you. Deb

Unfortunetly Blue Access isn't an option. We have "special" state plans like BCBS IUP PPO and BCBS Deductible 3 Plus. No one has ever heard of any of these stupid plans. The only normal one we have is Blue Advantage and it totally excludes it. I'm just going to have to call BCBS and go through each plan to see if it's covered or not. United Health Care HMO is an option, so I'll call them too. Thanks for your help guys.

I am a state employee. I looked closely at all the plans before selecting one because I wanted to make sure that I could have surgery in the future, when I had enough time off saved up. I have the Alliance Select program. I wasn't able to put my whole family on it because it would have cost me upwards of $300 a month. I was luck because my husband got a discount for just having insurance on him and our two kids and I am able to get my insurance free for a single person. I'm also thinking depending on what area of the state you work for, it might depend on what insurance is offered too. Good Luck!!
