Ok I am going threw some really rough times so and I am really stressed out and very depressed so I went to the Drs. office for medical advice. She put me on Lexapro. Well after taking it after only a couple days my stomach was really hurting me and I couldn't eat and if I did eat I got sick. So I went the Lexapro web site and in big letters it said it was NSAID which i know we can't take due to our sugery. So I stopped taking the medication at once and called the drs. office she nicely tells me to take before bed and split it in half. I explained that it was one of the pills I can't take. Well I was sick on the couch for a week and still not feeling the best so I am going to see my surgeon to see what is wrong with my stomach. Well my drs. office called me back again this morning and saying that my stomach hurting and me being isn't due to the medication. Honestly I am so frustrated I could sit and cry. Does anyone have a new list of medications we can not take. So I can take this into her and prove it to her. Anyone please help.......Lynda

Lexapro is an "SSRI" or a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor. It is NOT an NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug). NSAID's are things like advil, ibuprofen, relafen, toradol, naproxen, etc. They are pain meds not antidepressants. I went to the lexapro web site, and did not see any mention of it being an NSAID. One of the side effects of Lexapro is sometimes GI upset, which, in MOST people, when it does occur (aprox 15% of the time), goes away after 3 or 4 days. There will always be someone, however, whose symptoms will persist. It might be that this drug just isn't for you. Lexapro is generally well tolerated by gastric bypass patients as well as "normal" people. But, it is not for everyone. I only looked very briefly at the lexapro website, but I know for a fact that it is NOT an NSAID. I'm sorry that I don't have an actual list for you, but your doctor should know what an NSAID is - it is taught in first year pharmacology class. All of the antidepresants are on the tolerated list- but everyone's individual chemistry is different, and some people just don't tolerate meds whether they've had GBS or not. Good luck, and I hope that you feel better soon. J.

Thank you. I must of read it wrong. After talking to my surgeon today he and i had a long talk he said my body must not be able to tolerate it. Which i am not surprise. Again thank you.....Lynda

lynda, ask her to prescribe it in liquid form. you may be able to tolerate it better that way.
