Home from Hospital but with Pneumonia

My operation went fine. They weren't sure they could do lap on me, but he said it went beautifully. I immediately had a low grade fever and some breathing problems. This was not unexpected as one of my co-morbidities is asthma. Well they let me go home on Wednesday with a fever of 99.7, but it spiked back up after a few hours home. Yesterday went for chest x-ray and other tests and they said I have either bad bronchitis or not-so-bad pneumonia, but the treatment is the same. Otherwise I feel fine. I've been reading on the Oct board that other people have lost huge amounts their first week, and yesterday at the doctor I'm down only 2 lbs! I know I have to be patient, but come on!!!! Plus I got my monthly today and it's not scheduled for at least two more weeks. The Bariatric Center said that was normal with an operation. I've never heard that before. So to sum up....the one thing I want (weight loss), I don't have, and the things I can do without (monthly and pneumonia) are popping up to say Hi. Thank Goodness I have a well developed sense of humor or I might be crying. Everything aside though, I feel pretty good so I'm fortunate for that. I'll check in later. Sheryl

Oh, don't worry, Sheryl, you still have lots of fluid from the IVs & once it's gone, you'll see a dramatic drop. I only lost 1 lb by my first post surgical appointment but had been warned. By the next appointment a week later, I have lost over 10. They really should have warned you of that because it can be very disappointing. The monthly also, many gals have theirs start in the hospital even if it just ended. Can't say that happened to me. The hysterectomy took care of that problem, thank God. Glad to hear you came through Ok & hope that your pneumonia clears up quickly. It's no fun to be sick. Dixie

Sheryl: So sorry to hear about your complications. Geez, are you on an antibiotic? Do you have a postop breathing spirometer to help get your lungs full of air again? Hydration is so important to help your pneumonia and your postop needs. Take care. Nicole

Yeah, they put me on this gigantic pill called Levaquin. It's a BITC* to crush. I have to cut it in fours then cru**** It tastes like crap too, but so do all the crushed meds. I've been using nebulizer treatments and my spirometer. My biggest fear is that I'm going to "pop" a hernia because I'm coughing so much. I'm wearing my belly brace, but it's too stretchy to help much. Sheryl

And make sure with all the coughing to hold that pillow tight and bend into it, if at all possible! Glad to hear your feeling well even with the little setbacks! I too was ticked when I gained like 14lbs in the hospital.....but your retaining lots of fluids and they pump ya plum full with the IV's and such......it came right off! Best of luck! Take Care jesi
