We were just wondering if Grinnell requires a pre-op liquid diet, like we have read so many of them do?? Don't know if the doctor makes a difference but we have Dr. Kermode. Thanks for all your information ahead of time!!

I am not sure what Dr. Kermode does but I know when I had my surgery with Dr. Swartz (who is no longer there) I did not have go on a liquid diet before surgery. I don't think any of the other Drs. there had their patients on one either. No one in our support group has had Dr. Kermode though so he could be different. Have you had a consult with him yet? Keep us posted. Cindy G.

Hi Amy I had Dr. Eibes. I didn't have to go on any kind of liquid diets. He's not there anymore, (He's in Des Moines, working with Iowa Methodist). I don't think any of the doctors there in Grinnell have a liquid requirement. But again, I could be wrong. Take Care Lisa Young

When I had my consult with Dr Kermode I asked him about that. Just because I have heard so many people on the boards have had to do that. He told me that he doesnt usually do it. Its done to shrink the liver in case they need to take the gall bladder out...and since mine seems fine...I wasnt going to have to do that... but who knows....he could change his mind! Billie Jo

HI Amy, I think just Dr Glas**** in Cedar Falls requires the clear liquid diet & I believe there is at least one other doctor who has his patients on a liquid diet. It just seems like a bunch because there are so many of us here who had Dr Glas**** & since the clear liquid is difficult, we tend to whine about it. I think we all have done it. I know I was guilty. Most surgeons feel it's not necessary but he does, so anyone who has him for a surgeon does it. Dixie
