New Kid on the Block (sorry)
Hey guys! This is my first visit to the Iowa Board (thanks Jesi). I just learned today that my surgery is scheduled for October 19th!!! I am so excited, and very scared and nervous. I will need lots of encouragement over the next 20 days, so I know that I can come here and find it.
I live in Northern Iowa, and don't really know anyone personally that has been through the surgery, so I can use all the help, information and prayers that you all have to offer.
Thanks!
Terri

This is a great place to go. The next 20 days will hopefully go fast. I would get everything ready your vitamins, protein shakes and all that good stuff before you go. And put them at an easy area to get them at so your husband or your support or whomever will know where the stuff is at.
That is a great date. It's my brother's 9th Wedding anniversary.
Good luck to you! And welcome a board.

Welcome aboard Terry!
And CONGRATULATIONS on a date!!!! This is kind of a quiet board at times, moves rather slow, but there are alot of wonderful gals on here!! Another thing to think about, once you have your surgery, you can go to the october 2005 boards, and chat with lots of people who are going through the same things you are at the same time.
Sending Prayers and Best Wishes your way for a speedy and uneventful surgery and recovery!!!!

Congratulations, Terri, on making this big decision & for choosing an excellent surgeon. Can you tell I'm biased? Actually I think most of the surgeons here in IA are pretty good from what I've heard but you're going to mine!
I am probably one of the closest to you as I'm just a bit SE of you in Tripoli. If you can manage it, try to come to the support group meeting at Sartori on Monday night. You'll get to meet others who have had the surgery & some that are also about to have theirs. I have talked with one lady who is having hers not to long before you & she plans to come. The speaker will be someone from the psychiatry department & the subject is "I Liked You Better When You Were Fat! - How relationships can change following weight loss." It may not apply to you now, but probably it will in the future.
Welcome to our group & we hope to hear more from you real soon.

Congrats Terri....and welcome to the boards! First off its very normal to be scared and nervous, you will experience alot of different emotions before and after your surgery, just know that we are here for ya! You'll find alot of information here and if you can't find what your looking for ask away!
Your in my thoughts and prayers,
Janet
Welcome Terri!
This is the BEST place to get information and support! I have "met" some of the most wonderful people. Very helpful!
I have a surgery date of Oct 10th. I started my liquids Monday. Im on my 5th day. I wanna share a couple of things (I got them from people here), keep the calories up. Of all the liquids you can have, go for the calories, esp the first couple of days. I was light headed and miserable until I got some very good advice. Also I was told (thanks Dixie!) that the broth off chicken and noodle or rice soup tastes soo much better than the cubes. I still have 10 days to go so Im not sure how that will go, but I have noticed that its getting easier.
Feel free to email me anytime!
Take Care!

Terry - just read your profile and you are starting the same place I did (same weight & age - well basically). I had my surgery in April 2004 at 272 lbs (age 43) and am now 45 and at 142 lbs and a size 10. This is an awesome journey and Dr. Glas**** and his staff are the best. Good luck to you.
