Wondering why I did this
I'm 4 days post op and wondering why I did surgery. The tubes hanging out of me hurt. I'm siping my water, drinking my broth, slurping my jello, and i'm absoluately miserable. I have no energy. I just want to and have cried. I don't want this anymore. My back hurts from sitting in a chair, I get up and walk, but I can't walk far and it doesn't last long, I get too tired. I'm bored, sick of watching tv. I can't do my homework because I can't concentrate because of the drugs. I'm in bad shape.
Tracie,
If it helps, what you are experienceing is completely normal. Most of us have gone through these feelings. Remember, you just had major surgery, even if it was done lap. Years ago you would still be in the hospital being waited on hand & foot by nurses, getting back rubs, maybe even bed baths, drugged due to the pain, not expected to be up & around, & during the few hours you were awake, people would be visiting you, bringing flowers, cards, & gifts. You were expected to be tired & not expected to be feeling happy or able to concentrate. Oh, to be back in the "good old days!"
Now, they send you home just a couple days after the surgeon rearranged your insides. Your body still needs time to recover. It needs time heal & you can't expect it to bounce back quickly. Give it some time. In a couple days, if you feel up to it, taper off the pain meds. You can probably take Tylenol if necessary & thy do make an adult liquid Tylenol. Your brain will clear & you'll find your homework is doable. Each day will be a bit better & before you know it, your energy will be back. Try not to do too much, as much as you'd like to, it won't be good for you & will just make you more tired & sore. When you don't feel good, you get sad. Don't be ashamed of crying but try to find somehitng else to occupy your mind instead of dwelling on your pain, your confusion, your unhappiness.
Really, it will get better. I speak from experience. If it helps for you to know, I had my last surgery on a Monday & came home the next day. My first few days were OK but by Friday night & all weekend, I was miserable, feeling confused, sore (swollen) & wondering if I did the right thing. And, yes, the drains drove me crazy. A few days later I started feeling better physically & I was a totally different person. I knew I did the right thing & so will you. You'll get through this & soon it will be only a distant memory.
Just wait & see.

Hi Tracie! You are probably trying to bounce back too quickly sweetie! Pamper yourself a little and stay a head of your pain by taking those pain meds every so many hours. I remember how sore my insides were when I had my tubes tied. I am scheduled for my surgery on October 5 and I bet by then you will be feeling much better and I'll be the one writing for support!! You keep us posted everyday now and let us cheer you on!!!
Hugs~

I'm so glad you wrote. So many of us have been where you are. Hang in there Tracie, it's only going to get better from here. You'll feel so much better once they remove the drain tube. Give yourself time to recover and don't try to do too much. I liked writing thank you's to my friends and family who were so supportive during the whole thing. Call Dr. Glas****'s if you don't think your pain meds are effective, maybe they could switch you to something else. We're here for you when you need us. TAKE IT EASY! ;)

Thanks guys. I was feeling a bit blue yesterday. I feel better today. I think I was trying to do to much to early. I ended up taking more pain medicine, didn't have any teylnol and had a low grade fever. Now it's down, I feel better.
I didn't go to Dr G, I was at Mercy Capitol, and on clear liquids only until Saturday.
I'm doing much better today.
Hi Tracie! I'm so happy you are having a better day!!!! We all care about you and are here for you!!!! Why did you have a fever? Is that normal? Did it have anything to do with your surgery? My daughter's WLS surgery is Wednesday and I am wondering if I need to see her go through her first few days since my surgery will be a week later? I'm a little nervous about that one!!! Of course I will be there for her but now I will know what to expect and I'm not sure I want too!!! I think you know what I mean!!! Take care and keep posting so we know how you are doing!!!!
Hugs~

Hi Tracie, I hope you are doing better by now. I just returned to work. My sister Peggy had her surgery on Monday 9/19. Sorry never got to see you. I was up there once and seen you in ICU but the nurses were with you and the next time I went up there you had already been moved. My sister didn't even get out of ICU until Thursday and came home Friday. She is finally starting to feel better so I am hoping you are too. It may seem miserable now but should get better soon. I never had mine lap so I didn't have to have any tubes but I see hers and YUCK I am glad I didn't. Keep us all posted and good luck in your journey. Hopefully it will be all you wanted.
