Another Mercy Capitol question
When I went to the seminar they made a couple of references to your "support person". Could something please explain to me exactly what they are requiring of the support person? I'm single and thinking I may not tell my parents about this until after the surgery due to what I know the reaction is going to be. My sister would be ok with it but lives in another state. My friends are all either married with kids or single parents, so i don't want to bother them. Is it possible to get through this without a "support person"?
Your support person should be someone you can truly trust to be there for you a best friend, neighbor, relative or another WLS patient. If you need someone and have noone just ask for help. I live in DM and my sister is having surgery at Mercy Capitol on the 19th and I am her support person and had to go to a couple of visits with her. Do you have someone to be there for you when you would be having surgery?
I'll ask my friend to go with me. I just feel really bad asking her to take time off work when she is a single parent with two kids. She tries really hard to save all of her time so she can stay home with sick kids if she needs to. I guess I'll see if I can make my appointments at the end of the day or around the lunch hour to accomodate her. I understand the concept of the support person but I think it's stupid to require them to go to Dr. appts.
