Hello, I am new to this message board. I have spent the past week at consultation with the program coordinator, the dietician and the psychologist in preparation for surgery. The dietician gave me several protein powder samples to try before surgery including Nectar, Matrix, and Unjury. Do you have a favorite? Also, is the protein powder that body builders use the same as what bariatric pts use? I have seen some at Walmart and wonder if the protein whey is the same??

Welcome! I like the Nectar and am partial to the Fuzzy Naval. Strawberry Kiwi is also good. I recently got just a straight peach and don't like it very well. Any protein powder will work, bu****ch the carbs carefully. You don't want any with sugar as an ingredient and you want the lowest carb count possible.

Welcome! I like Matrix.....I also like very cherry nectar (but I don't care for any of the other nectar flavors ) And I have never had unjury...it is more expensive. I cannot find anything at walmart/GNC that I like that doesn't have the protein aftertaste......and I have tryed them all! That is neat that your getting samples to try already But a lot people will warn ya that your taste change......and what you love/hate now....won't be the same post-op A lot of the body builder ones have a lot of carbs/not as much protein.....become a good laber reader......Good protein powders should be 112-120 calories.....low-no carbs.......and 20 or more protein per scoop. My fave brands are Elite and pro delight.....Elite is great priced...plus most of the flavors are good warm too......nice in the winter months for cocoa like drinks A good thing to do is order some samples and see what you like yourself...and there are some great places to do that.... www.bariatriceating.com absolutesupplments.com vitalady.com Good luck and take care Jesi

I get my protien at Walmart and it is called Body Fortress. I get the chocolate flavor. It has 110 cal, 1g sugar 5g of carbs with that being 4 net grams, whatever that means. I mix mine with 1 cup of sk milk and it is a total of 28g of protien. It makes approx 30 drinks and only costs 11.95 or somewhere around there. I do add it (1 scoop) a little at a time and I use a wisk not blend it in a blender. You don't seem to have all that after taste from the whey. I can't wait until winter to try it hot. Good luck.

I absolutely love the Unjury unflavored protein. You can mix it in anything, and you can barely even taste it. It's honestly the first protein I have been able to tolerate. I bought the Nectar Iced Lemon Tea. Nasty stuff. Looked like mud, and tasted worse!!! I've tried others, but the Unjury unflavored is my winner! Connie -75#
