Psych Eval

Hi...I finally made an appt for my psych Eval.....its on the 22nd in Spencer. I also made an appt to see my PCP to make sure he gets all of the paper work together that I need along with a letter from him. He has been sooo helpful so far. I hope he continues! What does a psych eval usually entail? Billie Jo

I think each one is different. Some of the counselors just talk to you to see if you understand what you are getting into & if he thinks you will be able to handle it & will follow doctor's instructions. Others administer a true/false test, a long one with around 400 questions in addition to just talking. I had that & the results were very interesting. This test is used to help diagnose psychiatric disorders as well as tell about your personality. I've read about it since having the test & it is pretty interesting. I was shocked when she read to me about myself when she got the results back. I stopped her & said, "Do you know that you are describing my Mother exactly?" She just smiled & said that it was me. I never knew how much influence Mom had in my personality. Just try not to get stressed about going & answer any questions given to you as honestly as possible. Dixie

Billie Jo- I had my pysch eval last week. I found the process annoying but nothing to worry about. I had a one hour interview and then had to answer 150 question test MBHI instead of the 400 question MMPI. They really want to know that you understand the seriousness of the decision, that you will be compliant, and that you have a support system and are not depressed or suicidal. (At least that is what the guy told me at the end!) I had to talk about my various weight loss attempts so it helps to take some time to think through that ahead of time. (You have to do that before your consultation with Coster anyway- it was the green sheet in my packet.) Good luck to you just answer honestly and you will be fine. -Nan
