Who didn't cheat on the 2 wk liquid diet?? HELP!!!!!
Ok, I'm on the 3rd night of this clear liquid diet with 11 days to go. I'm starving!! I have eaten everything they told me I could have and my stomach won't stop growling. How did you get through this? I've heard people said that it gets easier after a few days but so far, I am still feeling weak and crappy. Does anyone know how this type of starvation affects our bodies? I mean....we aren't getting much protein or calcium or carbs that provide energy and nourishment. Also, won't this afffect sugar levels? I'm pretty much living on sf jello made with protein powder, juice, and broth and SF popsicles. I'm not whining, I know this is necessary but does anyone have any suggestions?? My husband and I went to the movies today (saw "Must Like Dogs"...it was very good) but the smell of popcorn nearly did me in. I think people could probably hear my stomach growling over the movie. I'm even afraid to be too active (like swimming in our pool) because I think it will make me hungrier.
Leslie (12 days and counting)
I feel for ya I didn't have any pre-op liquid diet, so I cannot help ya much there. But we were on a 6 week liquid diet after surgery....are you on clear liquids or full liquids??? If your on a full liquid diet....make yourself some pudding....then at least you will get a full and more content feeling! Take Care and hang in there jesi
Hi Jesi.... thanks but no, no pudding allowed. It is only clear liquids. At least after the surgery, your stomach is little and healing so I'm not thinking I'll be so hungry but right now my stomach is still big and empty. I understand all the reasons behind that diet but that sures doesn't make it easier. Ok...gotta hand in there..

Please Leslie, don't cheat! Dr G has been known to refuse to do the surgery if he knows you did not stay on the liquids. You can do it. It will get easier from here on out. The first few days are the worse.
The liquids will not hurt your body. As I'm sure you already know the main reason he does this is to make the liver shrink as obese people have fatty livers & they tend to get in the way when the surgery is done laproscopic. It also makes it easier for him & face it, you will lose weight & the less you weigh at the time of your surgery the better it will be for you. You are getting protein from the powder, carbs from juice, can get calcium from enriched juice, but even if you don't for this short of a time, it will not hurt you. If you continue to feel weak or are concerned, call the office on Monday. They may give you permission to eat something not on the list or will suggest something to help you out.
I never could have handled smelling theatre popcorn while on liquids. I may have blown it myself just to eat some of it. My downfall.
Hang in there Leslie. It is SOOOOOO worth it. Dr G has done a lot of surgeries & we all survived it. You will too.
