An introduction

Hi guys! Thought I would stop lurking and introduce myself. My name is Cindy, I'm 42 and live in Des Moines. I am very much in the beginning stages of this whole process. I've attended the informational seminar at Mercy Capitol and have my phone interview on Friday. I haven't even choosen a surgeon yet. My insurance company (BC/BS Blue Advantage) has already told me they will not cover weight loss surgery, so I may be wasting some time. Little do they know that I have open enrollment in October and I can change plans so they are going to pay for it one way or another!! I'm a little torked off at my PCP's office as they are making me wait 6 weeks to get in to see my doctor. It's a non emergency so they apparently don't feel obligated to try to get me in any sooner. Anyway, I just wanted to say howdy and I'm sure I'll talk to ya all later.

Hi Cindy, I am in the Mercy program, and am just 7 months post op now (and down 114 pounds). I picked Dr. Smolik. I can remember very clearly just one year ago in August getting really serious about looking into this whole procedure. I thought the day would never get here. I attended the seminar in September and had my surgery on Dec. 20. I also remember the frsutration of the red tape and doctor appointments up the yazoo. And before that time, I stayed as far away from the dr. office as I could because I did not want to be hassled over my weight. Gee, what a difference one year can make. Welcome. I'm currently in the program at Mercy Capitol, Dr Cahalan is to do my surgery. I'm getting (cross your fingers) close to the end of the process.
