Well, my Mom anyway! I finally got the guts to tell them about it...and dad is in bed. At first I dont think she was that receptive. She had a few questions about it. I told her that this appt was just a consult to talk to the dr about it and to get the insurance started and that I may change my mind and decide not to do it (although I dont think I will). I she asked a few questions. I answered them. She was worried that the place I am going to was some fly-by-night outfit. I assured her that Grinnell is the best from what I can see...and they were the first in Iowa to do this type of surgery many many years ago....and told her about this site. How supportive and all of the information there is here. I hope she checks it out. I also told her that I heard something the other day that really affected me.....someone said.....you rarely ever see an old fat person. And I got to thinking...no, you dont...and if you do....they are so miserable and in such ill health that I wouldnt want to be like that. I also told her that I think that is one reason I have not been able to get a job. Who wants to hire a "fat, lazy person".....by this time I was crying...she gave me a hug and told me she understood....and that if this is what I wanted to do...then that is what we will do. (My mother has battled her weight her life as well....though she isnt as heavy as i am right now.) I explained to her about the diet I will have to be on...and how she will have to support my eating habits. She took the information I got from Grinnell and went downstairs with it to read. Then called me a little later and had a list of things for me to get at the grocery store...healthy foods...and if its not raining tomorrow we are going to go for a walk after dinner. I will have to start doing that anyway. It wasnt as bad as I thought it would be....its its so difficult to tell your mom that you are a failure--but its not anything she didnt know...because she could see how it is affecting me. anyway....I need to get to bed...I didnt sleep well last night because I kept coughing. I didnt sleep till after 3:30 am. and woke up at 7am when my little doggie decided it was time for me to feed her and played mountain goat on me...hehe. thanks everyone for your words of encouragement....i do so appreciate it. Morning Bet you are feeling better by telling mom. There is such mis-conceptions about WLS. I chatted with some PA friends the other day, she wants surgery & he was against it.... til I sent my pics then he seemed to change his mind! I still think sometimes it takes an "outsider" to make people see the light. Keeping you in my thoughts & prayers, will be seeing you on the losing side soon. Hugs Carolyn

I am glad it went smoothly with your mom.....and if she does get freaked out about it....it is only because she loves you and is scared I think your dad will take it pretty well, I don't know him......but dads want to see their little girls healthy and happy Take Care jesi
