Hi I am considering lap banding and was wondering if anyone could give me any insight about their experiences with this and their doctors. I wanted to find someone in Iowa who does this procedure but having a hard time. How long does this usually take to get this process done? Thanks.

Hi Misty, I'm sorrry no one has responded but I think it's because almost no one here has had the Lap Banding. Most of the surgeons do the RNY. I know that at least one individual recently had the banding but can't recall who she is. Also most of the insurance companies seem to think the banding is experimental and won't pay. We know that's not the case so hopefully they change their tune. I believe my surgeon has started doing the Lap Band this spring. He is Dr Glas**** in Cedar Falls & if I remember correctly, there is one in Council Bluffs or across the river in Omaha. Maybe there are more. Dixie

Hello I don't want to put you down. Everybody is different now. But I have a friend who had it done, and she has lost weight and then gained all and plus more back. She had hers done in Cedar Rapids. Don't remember the doctor's name. Again, I don't mean to put anybody down. But just telling you what I have heard. Take Care Lisa Young

Lisa, I think it's just the person & the lifestyle changes they do or don't make, not the type of surgery. We can gain our weight back again too, unfortunately. I have seen the statistics that show that it isn't a small percentage of RNY patients who gain back a good portion of their weight eventually. We have to stay diligent & not fall back into our old sloppy habits. I don't especially enjoy exercising & would love to skip working out but I know if I do, my weight will slowly come up again. I don't want to be large again & I don't want to give anyone the satisfaction of being able to say, "See, I knew she couldn't do it." Dixie
