Test Results
Well, after waiting 2 1/2 wks for tests results and the Mayo doc's recommendation, I finally received the letter today. I'm supposed to just keep doing what I'm doing! ARE THEY NUTS??????
My PTH is high. I'm losing bone mass and just keep doing what I'm doing. Obviously that's working really well.
I'm done with idiot doctors. I'm not going back to any of them. I'm waiting until my rheumatologist gets back from sucking sand in Iraq. Let him sort it all out. I'll send all the info to my WLS surgeon and see if he has any ideas. Mayo says the bone loss is from WLS surgery. That well may be, however, it started before I had surgery. My PTH was elevated before I had surgery. Mayo is just waiting for me to have a kidney stone, then they said they will do something. GRRRRRRRRR!
Lyn,
Aren't dr's grand?? They must have no idea what to tell you since they used the ol 'do what you're doing' routine. And they obviously aren't willing to FIND OUT what you should be doing.
My pcp, God love her, just the other day started putting together that my PCOS, insulin resistance, and wt gain were all tangled together in a wicked catch-22. I wanted to scream at her that that is what I have been saying for several years now. To her and the endocrinologist (that I saw long enough for him to say "you're diabetic, lose weight")
I wish I knew what to tell you. I hate that you are 'giving up' on them but I certainly do understand!!
Big hug
Sheila
I would give up on em too....they are an awful long drive to say keep on losing you'll be fine....There has got to be someone closer....can you go to the U of I??? Can anyone put you on lowdose hormones to help out with the loss??? I will be thinking of ya.....thats for sure What kind of calcium are you taking now?? Take Care Jesi
I had been taking hormones until WLS last year. The surgeon made me quit. I'd been on it almost continuously since 1981. Way too long. I take a liquid calcium citrate with D. She said that was fine. All my labs are normal except the pesky PTH. That totally confuses them. I don't have the "classic" symptoms and labs for hyperparathyroidism, either primary or secondary. I'm going to try to touch base with my WLS doc next week and get his opinion. Otherwise, I'm gonna keep doing what I've been doing, 1000-1500 mg extra calcium, 3-5 servings of dairy and fosamax. They'll do something if I develope a kidney stone. Something to look forward to, right!
