OT: Rat terrier needs a forever loving home
We are looking for a forever loving home for our rat terrier. First off, she is very high energy so she needs a home where she has lots of room to run, preferably with kids (she loves kids) or a home where she will have a job like flyball or agility. She does not have much experience with traffic so she would have to be away from busy roads or trained to stay in your yard. She knows basic commands....sit, down, off, give, shake and get it and is kennel trained.
She is almost 20 months old, spayed, tan (looks orange to me) and white. She loves people, attention and doesn't hardly ever bark. She loves to play with toys (although she can be pretty hard on them). She only chews or digs if she is left alone too long with no attention but is not really destructive. She has never chewed up shoes or furniture. Usually it's just things she finds on the floor so it's good to make sure she had lots of rawhides or cow hooves to chew on. She has had all of her shots and is in perfect health. She has only been fed dry dog food (Pedigree).
As for how she gets along with other dogs.....she is very playful so seems to get along better with younger dogs who want to play. The few older dogs we introduced to her wouldn't play and growled at her so she attacked them (the terrier in her), not realizing they were bigger than she is. (size blind)
I love this little dog but she does not get the amount of attention that she needs from us. If we don't find the perfect home for her, we will keep her but I know she would just love to have some kids to play with.
thanks evreryone for reading this.....Leslie
I can, Leslie. We have rat terriors on our farm. Have always had at least one. Right now we have 5. Unfortunatley my husband cannot bring himself to get the male fixed & old Hoss, like any normal male animal , enjoys his sex life. He has bred his mother, grandmother, & aunt unfortunately. I keep telling my husband to get him fixed but he doesn't pay attention. We have had three puppies with birth defects, most likely caused by the inbreeding. They were dwarfed but didn't survive.
Rat terriors are wonderful dogs. Ours are really tough. Hoss will take on raccoons & usually wins the fight.

Dixie, Daisy is fixed
Sorry to hear about your perverted puppy but somehow animals just don't much care about that whole family connection. Daisy is a great dog but we live on a busy corner and we can't let her outside to run and she LOVES to run. Occasionally we will take her to a neighbor's farm and let her run but usuallly have to bring her home and bathe her because she just loves to roll in the foulest smelling thing she can find (it was silage the last time..ick!) We have a fenced in backyard but it's not that big and she doesn't have anyone to play with out there so she digs or chews. We have just decided that she doesn't suit our lifestyle right now and we want to find a place where she will be happy. I'm sure one of our farmer neighbors would love to have her but she would just come home so that isn't an option. Are you sure you aren't needing ANOTHER rat terrier...She's long legged and stands about 18-19 inches high. Did you see the picture of her? Look at the photo album on my profile.

She's beautiful & sounds like a delightful dog. Unfortunately, it doesn't work for us to bring in dogs from outside. Ours are just too territorial. They attack any dog, even really big ones, if they come on our farm. Same goes for cats. We have only one cat and she stays in the hay mow, only sneaking down into my calf building when Hoss isn't around. Last winter I couldn't figure out why he was always staying in the cold calf building at night when he could be in the barn all nice & warm. He was trying to get at the cat!
I hope you find a good home for Daisy. We get calls from people wanting puppies. Next time I take a call, I can ask if they are interested in a fixed adult if you'd like me to.

Hi Everyone...just an update. I think I found a great home for Daisy. She's a young college student who lives alone and wants a companion. She spends her weekends on her parents 80 acre farm where Daisy can run all she wants. She is really excited about meeting Daisy on Thursday so hopefully it will work out.
thanks, Leslie
