Hi Guys, I write this somewhat depressed and frustrated. I am almost 7 mos post op and I had hoped to have lost more weight than I have by now. Currently down 83 which is good but I got to tell ya that I see the cute things that are out now for summer clothes and I am getting down on myself because I still am not small enough to wear these types of clothes. I shouldn't complain, I know that I am miles away from where I was last summer by my patience right now is wearing thin and I feel that nasty depressing attitude coming on. My loss has slowed way down in the last 6 weeks and I am finding that I now having to work much harder to bring that weight off. Still walking but I am wondering if this is enough anymore??? Anyone got some encouraging words out there to help me guide me out of the this mental rutt I am in. Need a little inspiration I guess, or a laugh if you got one to spare!! Sherri

Dear Sherri: Pat yourself on the back, you've done very well!!! 83 lbs is nothing to sneeze at!!! Hang in there, you may just be hitting a plateau. It gets frustrating when you feel like you're doing what you should, and the weight isn't comming off. We get so used to the weight comming off so fast, that when it does start slowing down, it is maddening!! I guess all I can suggest is to try increasing your protein as much as possible, drink alot of water, and maybe keep a food diary to help you be more accountable. I guess we have to realize not all of us will get to our ideal weights. I 'm stuck at about 10 lbs over where I'd like to be. I know that with out a supreme effort, I probably won't get these last 10 lbs off!! I'm hoping with a T.T. maybe I'll get rid of part of it! I've been hung up on a specific number where I want to be, and am realizing that if I doin't get there, I'm still so much better off than I was!!! Don't give up, as I said, you're probably just at a plateau !! You might want to try some strength training, and some other different types of cardio, swimming, bicycling ect. I've been told we need to vary our exercise routines periodically, as our bodies adapt, and the benefit isn't as great, without changing things periodically!! Good luck, keep it up DeeAnn R

Thank You DeeAnn, I hope it is just a plateau, I have been thinking about taking my bike into town and keeping it at a friends house and bike with him in addition to my walking. He had WLS a little over a year ago and his wife is bugging him to be more active. Maybe we could help each other with the buddy system. Thanks for your advise, and I hope you make your goal. It must be really difficult being so close but still not quite where you want to be, I am sure if I were that close I would be feeling the same way. Thanks Again, Sherri

I hadn't seen your new pi****il now....... You look great I hate to break it to ya But the weightloss does slow down for most after 6 months......BUT there is good news.....most peoples window for losing can be up to 18 months......so you still have a long ways to go I am sure if you stick to it, you will get there! I know you think you are losing slow, or at least slower than you like.....but 83lbs is great!!!!! Make sure you are drinking all and then some of your water.....what is your daily caloric intake??? You might be eating too little food......are you eating a lot of carbs??? Give us a better look at your daily menu and then maybe we can help more!!! I am a little over 18 months out (window closed ) and 13lbs from my personal goal, but I am holding my head high kinda.......and I am gonna keep trying to get these last buggers off......Take Care and know we are in this with ya!! Yeah, it is a pretty decent pic~Thanks for the compliment! Well I guess I can hope for the best and hopefully that 18 month window applys to me. I am feeling better about this whole thing today, I have 1 more lb to loose before I am below 200#. It has been over 13 years since my weight was this low........ Lets see, what I eat..... well mornings I usually load up on liquids, usually by noon I will have had 32 oz skim milk and 1 10 oz protien drink (roughly 47 grams protien) for lunch it varies, half a sandwich with meat or a salad with xtra meat from subway (chix or lean roast beef), sometimes I have a few crispy (baked) chix strips. I have a protien bar once a day (21 gr protien) (EAS Advantage Carb Control Cookies and Cream) YUM Supper normally a grilled chix breast, or grilled fish, last nite I had a rolled corn tortilla with refried beeans and a little mozz cheese I have a couple of sf drinks between getting home and bedtime (30 to 40 oz total) Sometimes I do have a snack, but not every day. Usually a handfull of pretzels or I nuke some pork rinds My Doc told me to get at least 65 gr protien and 64 oz liquids per day. I think I pretty much meeting that for the most part. Also told me to look for food choices with less than 10 gr of fat and 2 gr or less of sugars (excluding natural sugars such lactose) per serving. I can't really say that I have been tracking my caloric intake or my carbs so I am not sure where I stand there or even where I should be. Hey, thanks for the support, Sherri

Morning Sherri, From one frustrated woman to another!!!! I'm stuck in the 170's have been for some time but what is really getting me is I'm gaining 5 pounds then dropping it have been doing this for a couple of weeks now. As of this morning I've dropped 90 lbs then it will be 95 lbs. I'm 20-25 from goal also BUT I'm frustrated like crazy!!! OHHHHHHH the clothes! Gotten to be quite a clothes horse myself just wish I would have known what size I would have been this summer as I would have bought out the clearance racks last summer! I go to CATO's & find the cutest clothes, now tell me is this crazy or what but I have found the cutest big clothes now! Where were those clothes when I needed them? I do buy the blouses from the women's side as the jr size or 14's are toooooo short which I'm not ready for yet. Wish we lived closer so I would have a walking buddy Hang in there girl there has to be a light at the end of this rainbow for both of us! Hugs Carolyn

Carolyn, Isn't it funny how you can go from almost dreading shopping to wanting to try everything on.....14 jrs huh? WOO HOO! Hot stuff! Go for it, so what if they are a wee bit short! I am wearing a lot of sleevless shirts this summer, And I also like to wear the strappy camisole with the built in bra. Tried some on the other day, 18/20 fit so awesome around the bust, but too tight around the belly, the next size up is just the opposite is too big in the bust and and just right around the belly. ARRGGHH!!!!!!! I sometimes wish I could have plastics now. My doc said we will talk at 18 months post op about tt but I know I will be chomping at the bit a lot sooner that that. We will both be basking in that light at the end of the rainbow!!!! Sherri
