Just diagnosed diabetic

I Went to the Dr Thursday for test.The day after my BDAY & I was diagnosed to ba a diabetic... I am now on medicine & check my sugar 3-4 times a day...The Dr thinks maybe this is why I cant get my blood pressure under control...So now im on a supvised diet & still waiting to have WLS...I havent given up yet...Laterz Janelle

Hang in there Janelle. I was taking medication for diabeties and high blood pressure before my WLS but have not taken any meds since that day. WLS is not a cure for diabeties (even skinny people can be diabetic) but is certainly helps. Barb

Janelle I just started taking Avandia for my diabetes. I only have to test in the morning though. I am still waiting approval too! Hang in there, our day will come! Shelli

Ditto what the others said. I was maxed out on two different meds before my surgery in April 2004. I haven't taken any meds since then and my blood sugar is fine. Because I have diabetes within my immediate family I know that this is something I will always need to be aware of and I do still occasionally test. My labs have been great tho and yours will be too. Hang in there. This is an incredible ride and worth every twist and turn you have to take before you get there!! Janie
