I just saw my family Dr. this week and she has started me on B12 shots monthly has anyone else had this experience? Just wondering if this is a normal thing or she is just being precautous. She said her other pts. started showing deficiences around this time and thought it best if she got me going on them. I have lost 98lbs in my 6 months and am very happy about that. I went to get my dress for my sons wedding next week and was able to get into a size 16 which really surprised me. I don't remember the last time that happened. Cindy

Howdy Cindy! From everything I have heard and seen working in the Family Practice Clinics, a lot of our bariatric patients are on B12 shots. I know with the information I have gotten from my surgeon that I have chose it says since the B12 gets digested early in the intestinal tract there possibly will be a deficiency so you need supplemented. Tell everyone at FPW hello for me! I sure miss working with them! Take care and congrats on the 98# loss, keep up the good work! Vicki Ballou

It's very common to not start B-12 supplements until one is close to six months post-op. The body stores B-12 for about that long and depletion *usually* does not occur until around then. ~~Sherry E.D.D. of Alexis Leigh-Ann (or) Ian Connor~~11/11/05
