Anyone had surgery at Grinnell?
I do not live in Iowa.. but, near. I have lots of relatives in Iowa. This clinic in Grinnell has been recommended to me. I would be especially happy to talk to someone who had surgery at Grinnell who has a high BMI of 65 or 70. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who could give me some idea of the care they had there. THANKS!!

HI-
My mother and I both had our surgeries in Grinnell. She had Dr Schwartz and I had Dr Coster. I cannot tell you how excellent they are, from the time you meet the surgeon, in the hospital and they have wonderful follow up care. They are excellent surgeons!!! I would highly recommend them to you. Let me know if you have any questions and good luck in your journey.

I also had surgery in Grinnell, in Dec. I have had good results and am very pleased with the care I got while in the hospital there. From the admissions people to the staff who took care of me I couldn't have asked for better people. I don't know what dates you are looking at for your surgery but I understand that Dr. Ibes and Dr. Swartz is leaving so I would guess your Dr. will be Costner. I had Swartz and he was ok. His bedside manner was pleasant but didn't waste any time there after surgery. I saw the 2 assoc. more than him when I was in the hospital. But I didn't need him so that was ok. He is a great surgeon. I have heard good stories about the other 2 also. They were very polite and spent time with me when they checked on me on the weekend so that was nice. They all are very concerned Drs. and the staff is just exceptional with WLS pts. They know what they are doing. I would recomend anyone to them. Good luck with your discission making. It isn't the easiest thing to do. But once you make up your mind it is so much easier after that. It all has to do with mind set. Let us know if we can answer any of your questions that is what this is all about.

I too had my surgery at Grinnell just this past March. It is a great place. I live an hour away and chose to go there over the places available to me in my own town, mostly because of their expertece. The specific dr I had is no longer with them and may be coming to Des Moines so that will work for me but I would highly recommend Grinnell to anyone. Oh and my BMI was 67. They have done people of all sizes and ages. Good luck and keep us posted here.
Hi
I had my surgery in Grinnell with Dr. Eibes, and yes, he has moved to Des Moines. He will be working through Iowa Methodist Hospital. He did tell us in our support meeting that his office would be in West Des Moines and will be starting surgeries in July or August.
He also said that he would post information on Obesity help.com, but if I hear anything, I'll let you know.
I started at 350 and down to 220. Feeling great, and more energy.
Good luck on your decisions.
Take Care

I was very happy with the care my husband and I both got in Grinnell..our surgeon was Dr. Schwartz. I was 350 when I had my surgery, and had no complications. They have not had very many deaths at the facility considering how many operations they have done. My favorite part was the nursing staff following...they are trained specifically for helping people recover from bariatric surgery...it was wonderful.
