What should I take???
I may be jumping the gun here, ( Since I have not been approved) but my husband and I are trying to plan ahead.( Also trying to think positively)
After my surg. and hospital stay I will be released to go to a Hotel. I live outside the required area to go home. I will be staying in the hotel for 1 week post op. This is fine with me, I would rather be close by if anything goes wrong anyway.
So any ideas of what to take with me for the motel stay? I have started a list. Things you used after surg. that I will need to take. Even comfort things. I have got things down like heating pad, refillable ice bag, my own pillows, bottled H20. Anything we can buy ahead of time (once I am approved) will just save my husband wandering around the stores looking for things ( that he probably will not have a clue what to get!!! )
Thanks Shelli
Morning Shelli,
Never hurts to plan ahead with positive thoughts going along with the plans Will you have a micro in the room? Small cans of broth or buillion cubes for eats. Jello in individual (pre-made) cartons, sugar free of course. Not much you can eat...oh they suggest no red jello. Are you having lap or open RNY? Comfy clothes of course are a big must! Sweats are your best bet. If you are having open have heard that a sports bra works best.
Good luck to you Sorry can't help you on the support group I'm on the other side of Iowa.

I know this sounds crazy but Dixie gave me great advice for this.
When your bowels start to move again, wiping can be somewhat challenging. If you don't want your husband to wipe for you, you can try a long kitchen spoon (wooden) and keep that in the bathroom. When it comes time, you can wrap some tp around the end and wipe. I didn't know that this would be an issue and my husband, bless his heart, helped me out here. It was just very VERY hard for me to "reach".
Other than a fan, that's all I can think of. I was really warm after surgery and preferred to have a fan on lightly in the hospital room and at home. The heating pad is wonderful on your belly for gas pain. I used it for the first 2 weeks at night and naps.
Good luck and I'll be thinking of you!!!

Jen
The first week......I was only allowed clear liquids.....so like jello and broth and stuff.....Make sure you have a fan and chapstick and sugar free drinks......the most important thing that first week is to get your fluids in.....so you might want to bring some big tupperware glasses to have your juices (SF of course) already made up!!! Good luck to ya! Keep us updated on your progress! Take Care jesi
