I was just wondering if anyone who had went to Grinnel Regional, Dr. Coster etc.. could tell me approximately how long their stay was granted there were no complications and every thing went text book. My surgery is set for Friday and I'm hoping to be able to go home Sunday. They say 3-4 days and I was hoping Friday would count as day 1. My hubby just started a new job in Feb and really can't afford to take anymore time off than that Friday. It's not that I wouldn't have anyone to come get me I'm just worried about inconviencing (sp?) anyone to have to take my kids to daycare at 5 AM that monday morning because my hubby has to leave at 4:30. Thanks in advance.. Tracie S

Tracie- My mother and I both went to Grinnell, I had Coster and she had Schwartz. Her surgery was on Friday, I took her home on Monday, no complications, she was in intensive care due to her sleep apnea for 2 of those days. I had mine on Tuesday and went home on Saturday, I spent several days also in intensive care because I had a revision and it was more involved surgery. Don't rush to get home, this is a major surgery. Just stay as long as they will keep you. You have a lot to get adjusted to and need time to heal. Especially if you have kids, just stay and let the nurses help you. I wouldn't plan on them discharging you any time before Monday, maybe that day. Seriously take this advise and just make other arrangements for the kids, let your husband go to work on Monday and if they discharge you, he can pick you up after work maybe??? Kourtney

Hi Tracie. I went to Grinnell but had Dr Eibes and my surgery (open RNY) was performed on Thurs morning and I was released on Sunday. I had mine 03/03/05. I agree with everyone else you need to get some help with the kids after you do go home. I was tired alot and very sore for the first week. Hopefully you have a family who will be willing to help you since this is a major surgery and it is something you are doing to make yourself a healthier person. I will be thinking about you and good luck on your surgery. Grinnell is a great place for this surgery. You will be in good hands.
