now what?

Ok now im in a spot. Talked to my doctor today about the surgery, yeah he came back a little early and his receptionist called to ask if i wanted to go in earlier, so of course i said yes, mind you i am a stay at home mom and only live a half hour away from doctor, so i went in to talk to him. IN NO WAY will he refer me to have this done. I knew it. He dont believe in it and wont refer absolutley no one to have this done for he believes that there is too many risks involved and since i have young children, it made him deny it more. What do i do now? There is no one i know to go to, plus i dont know the surrounding area all that well. I live in Clinton, but our insurance is john deere health from oscar mayer, so we really are limited to surrounding areas. Does anyone know of a doctor that is wls friendly and accepting new patients? I would appreciate if someone could help me out on this. I am willing to travel to davenport, east moline, moline, etc.... my endrocronologist is in Rock Island, so the travel is not of essence. Please help....dont know what else to do.... :cry: becka

Becka, Are you absolutely sure your insurance requires a referral? Mine did but the new one I have no longer requires you to have a referral to go to a specialist. You might want to look into that. Otherwise, I can't help you but am sure the gals from the "East coast" can. There are several who went through Genesis in Davenport who might know who to go to. I absolutley hate it when doctors make decisions based on their own ignorance! I was my doctor's very first WLS referral but he had no reservations about it. Now he raves over how I look & calways asks how I feel. I started out weighing more than 100 lbs more than he & now, well, guess who is smaller now? Good luck! Dixie

im not really sure if they do or not but i think so. I know that they cover Genesis. I will have to check it out. Thanks for the input and congrats on the weight loss.

Sorry I can't help you Becka but do check your policy to see if you need a referral. I didn't I just called the surgeon myself. Doctors! Sometimes I think they need to be hit up along side the head! Good luck to you, keep us posted. Hugs Carolyn

Hi I know this might be different, but my surgeon says, that John Deere would NEVER pay for the surgery, they had the people come in and tell the doctors that they would never pay for it. But again, things can change. Just thought I would put my 2 cents in. Lisa Young

Hello Rebecca, im also from clinton had my surgey 2 years ago I went to my family Dr up at medical assc his name is Dr york he might be taking new patiences hes the one that refered me and the one that did my surgey was Dr Mcfarlin at trinty in moline I had title 19 whn I had mine done so im not sure about your insureance. i hope it works out for you take care Laurie

Yeah I know Dr. York...unfortunatly, john deere does not cover Medical Associates here in town. Thanks guys for your help. Maybe my endrocronologist will be able to help me out> i will find somehow. And yes John Deere will pay for the surgery, but has details on it. You can find this on their website. Thanks everyone once again.

Becka, You might want to call Trinity in Moline. They have a "relationship" with John Deere Health. When I had my consult with Melissa, she mentioned them as one of the easiest insurance companies for her to work with. Mine is one of the hardest (BC/BS). My surgeon consult is tomorrow, wish me luck!! Tina

I am now seeing a new doctor that i think is alrlight... hot too. Yes andrea tyty. lmao. Anyways... I am hoping to have the surgery at genesis, cause trinity likes to do the open rny and i would like to have the lap done. Also i have went threw genesis in prior surgeries. Thank you for the information though. As for John Deere, the new Doc. thinks he will be able to handle it and get in my requirements. Im not for sure. I thought bc/bs was the easiest to approve! Wow learn something new everyday. Best of luck to you! I hope that it turns out the way you want it to. As for me..still not smoking YEA! I cant stand the smell or anything anymore. But not going to go to that hypicritical state of why you shouldnt smoke cause that would make a hypocrite out of me~ not going to happen.
