Im a newcomer
Hello all. Im Kristin from the Ames Ia area. If had so many thoughts about having this surgery..it is driving me crazy. I am about 5'11"and weight is 375. I have 6 children(whi*****ludes two sets of twins).I really need someone who can help me through this or go through it with me. Ive never been so scared in my life but know its worth it. My biggest concern is the infection. My body doesnt fight it off very well. I'd be glad to hear any of your thoughts or ideas. Thanks alot!!!!! Kristin
Welcome Kristen. I am just waiting for my surgery date to come (May 24th), so cannot answer those kinds of questions. I will say it's a decision not to be taken lightly, as your whole life and lifestyle will change, but for the better. I researched and pondered having surgery for about 2 years. Though the thought of having surgery scares me a little, thinking about the alternative and everything that can happen to me if I don't scares me more. If you have questions, this is definitely the place to be. This is a wonderful and supportive group of people who are more than willing to share their views, answers, or just to be there for each other. Welcome again!!

If you're concerned about infection, I'd suggest that you look into having your surgery laproscopicly. (I can never spell that correctly!) It's not that you won't necessarily get an infection but the incisions are so small that it's less likely and almost impossible to get a hernia. I think most of the surgeons in Iowa do it Lap now.
My surgeon, and I suppose most of them, have you take large doses of antiobiotics the day before surgery to help with preventing any problems like that. I have heard horror stories of infections that have to be kept open to heal from the inside but they are rare instances.

Morning Kristin
WELCOME Any questions, concerns or vents this is the place to come to, we are here to try & help you. I had lap RNY almost a year ago & agree with Dixie talk to the surgeon about this. Recovery time is faster as well & with your busy life that's the way to go. I also have a set of twins, boys that will be 29 yrs old this fall! I also mis-carried a set of twins in 1982.
