Am I doing the right thing?

This is my first post so I am bit nervous. When I ask - am I doing the right thing? you may be thinking that I am questioning having WLS. Well- that is true. I have doubts- but they quickly disappear when I try to keep up with my little girl at the park - or try to fit into (yet another) new pair of jeans. New... because nothing in my closet fits. Anyway, I digress, my biggest question at this time is "am I using the right sugeon???" I have been working with Dr. White in Omaha, NE. He has an excellent reputation and I knew someone who used him previously. But I live in West Des Moines. His office has made mistakes that has prolonged the (painful) insurance approval process. I am afraid that I may be making a mistake- using a DR. that is a 2 hour drive away.

Hi Jennifer! Which procedure are you having/wanting to have done? If you are planning on the Roux-en-Y and do not mind having the surgery performed 'open' vs. 'lap', my surgeon is Dr. Bruce Hardy in Ames. He not only has an excellent reputation; but, is a wonderful person on top of it. Feel free to let me know if you would like me to answer any questions about him. ~~Sherry Open RNY 02/04/04 (Proximal-75 cm) 294.5/141 E.D.D. of Child #2~~11/11/05

Morning Jennifer, I can understand what you are going thru, the surgeon I was seeing was in Sioux Falls also 2 hours away then I found one only 30 minutes away. Also had problems with his office. If you aren't comfy then yes find yourself another surgeon. Have you been approved or are you just starting the process? I don't have any dr's to suggest since I'm on the other side of the state but sure someone other than Sherri will suggest a dr to you. Good Luck, keep posting Carolyn

My surgeon was two hours away from my home! I went to the UHIC !! If you like your surgeon a little drive shouldn't matter!! If you are worried about your surgeon and knowing that they have already made errors that are costing you precious time, then I would consider looking around!! No-one knows but you Hopefully they will get there act together with the insurance stuff and you will get approval!!! Take Care and keep posting, you have found a great place for support!!! Take Care Jesi

Thank you for your responses. I just returned from a vacation to New Orleans with my husband. It was a much needed break and gave me some time to slow down and think about things. I can't wait to begin this process. I plan to do a lap-band. I have a 6 month old baby and want the least amount of recovery. I will be making some calls this week with my prospective Dr. in Omaha and give his office a chance to "get-it-together". Thanks again!!!
