Blacking out?

Just wondered if any of you have had spells where things go black for a couple of seconds? Let me start from the beginning. I have 2 older dogs and they need out at night. When I get up with them I tend to have these spells where everything goes black, I get weak and I have only passed out 3 times completly. My Physciatrist said I was just dehydrated and I needed more liquids. Which is true I can't seem to get all the liquids in that I need in a day but even when I do get close I still have these spells. I go see Dr. Swartz next Tues and will be asking him but thought maybe this is something some of you had experienced. Thanks for your help. Cindy

Cindy, I've had this happen, but I was a little further out than you. I still do occasionally have dizzy spells. Try sitting on the edge of the bed (swing your feet down to the floor) and just sit for a minute before you get up. It's my understanding it can be from being dehydrated, but also from low blood pressure because of lying down. Just sit for a minute before you get up and make sure your head feels okay and then get up slowly. It helps for me. If you continue having problems I'd definitely check with your dr. You could try drinking more water before you go to bed. Since the dogs need out anyway, you'll be up for the bathroom!! Janie

I totally agree with Janie. Not that I have even had surgery yet but I think it's from low blood pressure from laying down. My grandpa had this a lot. At any rate, call your doctor and let them know, if at least to hear them say "it's normal". Or maybe they'll check you out just to be sure. They'll understand but you have to let them know ASAP. I wish I could be more help! Hugs, jen

I have had this happen a couple times. For me, it was from being dehydrated. I even woke up one morning to find that if I moved my eyes or head around I got so dizzy that the room would spin. I was getting all the water in, but the problem I was having was that I would drink all my water early in the day so by the time I got to the morning of the next day, my body was dehydrated. I would suggest drinking 2 cups of water before you go to bed if possible. Good luck!

CINDY- You'd better tell Schwartz EVERYTHING or I will. Little birdies have been tattling on you and I think something is going on. You know that not being able to drink is NOT NORMAL. Sorry to yell but you know me- I'm gonna call and see what is going on with you! B

Cindy, Sorry that my response is so late in coming. I have had the blacking out spells for some time now. I have let my surgeon and family doctor know all along. When I stand up from a sitting position, things begin to go black. I hold on to something until all is well again. My friends and coworkers know what is happening because it happens so often. Don't know if it's low blood sugars, low blood pressure or something else. A friend that also had surgery has this and had extensive testing done. She was told that it had something to do with the way that her blood pooled when she was sitting. I'm sorry that I can't shed much light on this for you, but just wanted you to know that you are not alone. Like all else, be sure to let your surgeon know. God bless, Andrea
