Jen, I wanted to post (a little late, I'm sorry) and tell you good luck on your insurance coverage. I know that is really one of the first huge hurdles that we have to jump over for this procedure. Hang in there with the stress and tests and all will work out. About my surgery - I had open surgery a little over a year ago. You can read more about my experiences on my profile. I think the pain was not too bad, as long as I had the morphine button to push whenever I needed it. When they took it away on Wednesday (surgery was Monday), that was a different story!! I hurt!! About the nausea - I had that when waking up after surgery. I felt like I was going to throw up so badly and was really hot. I remember being in my room and the nurses running around to get a basin and cold washclothes. Don't remember much after that because I went back to sleep and slept until midnight. I also had some nausea when I went home. As a matter of fact, Thursday, first day home, was bad, so Friday I called the doc. They ordered a prescription to help with the nausea, but only took it once because it made me so tired and doped up. Saturday, things were looking up and I was able to get some protein drinks down. Remember, the time after surgery is really so short of a period of time compared to the rest of our healthy lives !! About the drains - there are two different kinds. One is for the wound itself - the JP. It drains fluids from the wound and I had one of those. Just a nuisance more than anything and a little uncomfortable when they remove it. The other drains fluids from the detatched part of the stomach, I think. If you have to have one of those, you may want to do some more research on that or ask some more questions of some of the folks on here. I begged the doctor to shower. Surgery was Monday - couldn't shower Tuesday, (but the nurse helped to shower me up on Monday night when they finally remembered that I started my period). Was able to shower Wednesday morning. Keep posting, asking questions and reading. AND, be sure to let us know when you get insurance coverage! God bless, Andrea
