Dr.Glass**** in Cedarfalls
Can you tell me anything about your experience with him? Also if you need a psych eval done, where do you go ? Do they send you somewhere, or are you on your own to find someone? Also those of you who lived to far away and had to stay in town did you stay at the Ramada Inn as suggested if not where did you stay?
Thanks Shelli
There are several of us here who have had Dr G as a surgeon. Unfortunately, I don't know of anyone who had to stay at the Ramada but it's a decent place, if that's what you wanted to know.
If you want to hear from several of us, I you might want to join the yahoo group we have set up for his patients & others who are interested. You can always leave it again if you decide on a different surgeon. Many on that group never check out this message board so you will get more responses.
You can join it by sending an e-mail to

To answer some of your questions though.. my experience with Dr G & his staff couldn't have been better. They are very dedicated and caring, I did have to have a psyc eval & they told me who to go to. Since you are out of the area I'm sure they would let you go where you wanted to go & would probably be able to suggest one.
They have you complete a long form with questions about your health, diet attempts, etc. From that they decide what tests you will require. They are very thorough. In a few cases the testing showed problems that needed to be taken care of first before surgery could be done. It was fortunate that these problems were found before the surgery & not after as it makes the recovery so much easier. Fortunately, most people just fly right through their tests.
Dr G is one of the surgeons *****quirs a 2 week clear liquid diet before surgery. He does this so the liver shrinks & makes more room for his laproscopic surgery. He does very few opens & has never lost a patient.
One reason I am very impressed with him has to do with his training. He completed an advanced Laparoscopic Surgery Fellowship. This means he spent many months training to do the laproscopic surgery under very well qualified surgeons. That is not the way many of the surgeons are getting their laproscopic training now. Many are going back for training to learn to do laparoscopic & their training is only a few weeks in length. Now, I am not saying they are not good surgeons or that they can't do it well. It must be working as many are doing the training this way. I am just saying that I KNOW that Dr G knows what he is doing. By the way, his new associate, Dr Shah also did his training the same way.
When I had the surgery there was a long wait from the time you started the process until you had the surgery. I understand this has improved partly due to the addition of Dr Shah.

Thanks for your responses and the info on the yahoo group. I sent an email requesting to join!!
I agree he has had awesome training and a great track record!! I also hear he is very nice and has a great bedside mannor. I am looking forward to eventually meeting him!! I am excited to meet all of his staff at the February seminar.
I am about 2 1/2 hours from Cedar Falls. So if they have someone they prefer to send me to for my pysh eval I would go where they wanted me to go.
Thanks again for your help!!!

Dr. Glas**** and his staff are awesome and they are an excellent support system. I feel their program and support is what is helped me to be successful. You will need a psych eval and you can see whom they have or as I have read some of them see their own psychologist. I only live a half an hour from cedar falls so I can't help you out on the Ramada I know they like you close if you would have any complications if you live longer than an hour away. Good luck with everything and you'll be on your way to the losing side! I had my surgery last March 4 and I have lost 147lb. I would do it over again in a heart beat!
Good luck Kim L.
Be sure to read to read the photo album at Dr. Glas****s office that Dixie put together of us. It is awesome!
I will see you at the Feb 15th seminar!!! I'm so excited...not thrilled about the 2 week clear liquid diet before surgery but the UIHC just takes too long!!! They have 3 months of dieting before they even submit pre-approval for insurance!
I had my psych eval done in Cedar Rapids with Dr. Wellso at the Cedar Centre. He recommended me but he's not the greatest doctor. I really like Dr. Penningroth there though. I'll see him after surgery.
Hope to meet you on the 15th!
Hugs,
